Mason and Browne was in good spirits I saw when I popped down briefly. Would have been understandable if they might have been down

I’ve got no idea what he might have told Dermie, just doubt that we’d “promise” any player we’d take them, rookie demotions aside. How what we said is interpreted or reported by a third party doesn’t alter my opinion. I’ll leave it there as it’s a pointless circular discussion.

I guess the main point is that these are players that have not so far made the grade for whatever reason.
Ned is one that needed time to develop, and others may have been not quite good enough in their draft year.
Steele has been around the traps for a while, and Howes (and May) possibly haven't shown enough yet.
It's good that a small number have another chance.

Yeah my main point to Dave was I don't think Riley & Browne would have a problem welcoming in & congratulating Steele & Howes.

They'd know where the club saw them as far as last night was concerned.

Howes, West and Smit are all born within 6 months of each other, but Steene is 2+ years older than all of them.

Howes looks more mobile and athletic to me anyway. Looks a better foil for Westy going forward

He might have better scope for switching back if needed too.

The need for another KPD seemed obvious to me. The fact we didn’t go that way makes me wonder if they have seen something in Smit’s couple of instances down back and think he’s an option there.

Putting faith in Reef to come back stronger too next year.

This MSD just didn't have any decent key defenders. Probably better off looking at the draft

If there were any decent key defenders available, you'd think Bombers would have chosen them.

Even if there was a young key defender available, he wouldn't be ready to play in our system this year. We're still developing Dean.

THere's unlikely to have been a state league guy more capable of being dropped into our AFL system and succeeding than Charlie Dean currently is as he knows our system. It's a draft for best available or short term depth from your VFL team.

It's taken Frampton 3 preseasons to know what he's doing in our defence. Short term depth really wasn't an option unless they were very experienced pros - or Glover - who is very similar to Dean.
