I’m going to suggest we reward one of our own in Faulkhead. He’s had a strong start to the season. If we’re specifically targeting type then I’d go with a small forward. The speculative picks always seem to have the greatest hit rate with those types and I think we’re an injury or two forward of the ball from being in serious trouble.

I like Teakle as a 203cm, frampton like utility. Looks to have matured a bit after a few years in the system.

Wouldn’t be opposed to young mcguane as a future small defender.
Has things to work on…but clearly a hard worker with decent skills and an innate footy IQ

…who could hopefully mature the way Josh Daicos did once the sufficient strength in the hips etc was put on to improve running capacity

There's a number of blokes who could get a call up from vfl. But Teakle is a bit older than what our draft profile has been. Faulkhead has been good, but can go missing at vfl level.

We seem to get a good crop of kids from the SANFL lately, one kid that's looked good for a while and starting to put it together is Kade Herbert at WWT. Will need to work on his running capacity, but looks a likely type of player!

We don't need to go after a KPD because of the Reef injury. Just take the best available talent, regardless of position.

I have long thought that our backline functions best with just two of Moore, Frampton & Howe. I suspect Howe will end up playing the back half of the year as a swingman because of the form of Frampton. You effectively have that depth already built into the team.

KPD are rarely drafted to play that role anyway. Howes is the latest example of that. Take the best talent available.

As long as whoever we don't announce whoever we are targeting before we actually select them and put them on the radar of other clubs who pick ahead of us... I.e. Archie May last year..
We wanted Roan and Noah anyway. And they look astute selections by OB one Kanobe

There’s going to be a lot of reactionary comments based on Reef going down and Howe’s age, but in Howes we look like we’ve got a good one. He’s spent 15 minutes in defence ahead of last week and he ends that one with 11 intercept possessions with a number of them about closing speed and body positioning. That’s a tick and his role moving forward. I’d still like another for 2027, but that could quite conceivably be McCarthy if we bring in say King.

Archie May was mentored by Dermie. Dermie’s partner was Archie’s mum. In any recruitment situation the club is not totally in control. A leak can happen when anywhere and Dermie may not have even been the source, just an example. The club did Anderson so well given reported other club interest. A character check is required but a risk.

I thought I saw somewhere that Essendon did a late last minute due diligence on Archie after getting wind that we were into him, and sure enough he got picked by them. I'm not sure how accurate though
