Yep, makes you feel good BUT what changed from the 2018 when everyone passed on him - was it just the injury to Grigg, was it his WAFL form.

Apparently, part of the reason was Stack.

Seems Pickett had been a huge influence on it, and when he arrived at Richmond he raved about him for his mentoring and guidance...So the Richmond recruiters gave him a closer look...They already knew he was a good player, but the character side of things added to his value (and probably countered the perceived negatives about him) enough to push him over the line.

Certainly a heart warming yarn.

Pickett was from the SW, played at South Freo.
Stack was from Northam, so played Colts for Perth. Be related to Neon Leon & the Hills.

Both the Pickett & Stack familys have had multiple WAFL players.

It's a stupid idea we need to be giving less kids an opportunity and move the draft age to 21. The current quality of the comp is awful. It's bad when the bottom 6 in each team are basically trainees in a professional sporting comp.

Why even draft high school students? 3 years after high school would cut a lot of crap out of the draft. It would avoid mistaking players like Tom Scully, Tom Boyd and Jack Watts and clubs building lists around unproven "stars".

I probably got it 4th or 5th hand, so I can't claim it to be a certainty, but the idea that a senior indigenous player who has had trouble with the law mentoring a talented young indigenous player who is skirting with the same issues (even one from another club) doesn't exactly stretch credulity that far. It also fits with what we (now) know of Pickett's character, so I tend to believe it. (then again, maybe I just want it to be true...).

I detest mid-season list changes of any sort. But the rules are the same for everyone, so its not unfair to AFL clubs.
To state league clubes who might lose a premiership because a player or two they were relying on got poached mid-year, it is blatantly unfair. They end up paying the price for another team's bad luck or poor choices.
I also hate mid season list changes, I dont like drafts, trades, or any of the suggested proposals. Manage your list over the off season and if need be extend the list by 4 rookie spots for insurance cover.

Yeh we took Pickett and he played well in a GF but we won by 89 points and would have smoked them regardless so we hardly got any tangible benefit.

The rules don't favour any club here over another, it's not unfair, I just don't like it.
