I was thinking the other day... Whats the point of them? besides writing them down on a form or a potential nickname is there any use of them?
However would create an interesting discussion do you have any weird middle names or two?
Mine are london and paris for some strange reason:cool:

I like the concept, like a second place prize for someone, or perhaps you have the name you want your child to be called (the first name) and then a family/mark of honour middle name (after a father/ special person for example)

Also for those people with the same first names and surname.

mine is my mum's maiden name.

One of my son's middle name is my maiden name, both my kids have two middle names in case they didn't like their first names. I told both of them if they didn't like any of their names, they could change them to what they wanted.

I changed my name when I was 15, because I hated both my names. They both love their names & won't even let people call them a shortened version of their names, they get very angry if people try & shorten them.

Are you talking about your kids or your dogs?

My nephew is James. He detests anyone calling him Jim/ Jimmy.

I don't have a middle name. Some people are surprised when I tell them that, but as the OP said, what's the point of them? You only write them out on legal documents and paperwork.

Mine is after my Dad. My two son's are after my Father in Law and Brother and my Wife's is after her Grandmother who died before she was born. I think it is a special thing to be able to name your child after someone in the family.
