Midfield 1995 v 2008

Looking at our midfield i can't help but look back to 1995 and think how good our midfield was back then. The engine room was the key to our premiership back in 95, i just remember how well Harry, Diesel, Braddles and Ratts worked together. They knew eachothers game inside out.

With Kreuzer, Murph, Gibbs and Juddy hopefully working together for the next 12 years (less for Judd) hopefully these guys can form a similar bond.

The question is, in 10 years time which midfield will be looked upon as a more successful unit?

of course 1995 was performing better, but our club now has the potential to have the best midfield the game has ever seen in a few years.

95. four genuine stars. our 08 midfield isnt quite there yet, despite judd's presence - the youngsters still need to build a career. the 95 midfielders were getting on a bit and were very experienced performers.

We all saw with the Eagles in 05 and 06, even though they had the best/most dominant midfield in the league, they only won one flag in those two years, losing the other by a point, because they didn't have a forward line.

We are the opposite, we don't have a backline, we can win the ball in the middle and kick goals, but once it goes into out defence, we're cactus at the moment.

Geelong dominated in the midfield this season, they had a rock-solid defence, and a functioning forward line, we need to build a defence, then worry about someone chipping in and helping Fevola, once we have that, we know our midfield is going to be good, we'll be dominant
