Jetta's run and positioning improved through 2010 and 2011 but he again seems to have stagnated. I think many expected last year to be his break-out year, but when you've been around for 5(?) seasons as a small forward at the top level and aren't doing freakish things around goal or up the ground, fans get frustrated.

Sometimes I wonder if Jetta being Aboriginal adds to that - we seem to expect that because an Aboriginal player is playing a forward role that they'll play like Cyril or Eddie or Garlett or Lewis Jetta, and when they don't... maybe maybe not. Regardless, I think that's part of the reason why we all got itchy when we started talking about Dayle Garlett.

Also seeing players like Watson, Fletcher, Howlett and Hibberd put their bodies on the line time after time, just to see the ball near Jetta, Davey or Monfries and then they play for free kicks or don't go in and just get the ball and lurk on the outside waiting for something to happen for them. utter joke.

Nothing irks me more.

Our midfield future will struggle if we don't get a Clearence specialist in the next 3years from the national draft IMO

Zaka, Kav, Melksham and Heppell are not inside Midfielders.

Hams can do the job if he can show he is worth his spot and the Rory Sloane comparison and if Kommer is anything like Jordan Lewis with his hard nut approach, we might be in with a chance.

Myers if he can stay fit should be a clearance specialist IMO

Is Jobe Watson not one of the best clearence beasts in the league?
And i wouldnt exactly call Sloan a clearance expert.
I think our issues are that we lack class, and polish.
Carlton have prolific ball disposers: Murphy, Simpson, Carazzo with Yarran and Scotland coming off the back flank.
Richmond have Deledio, Cotchin, Martin with Newman, Ellis/Grimes off hb
Collingwood have pendles, thomas, sidebottom and h.shaw etc etc
These guys are usually good at disposing the footy, can the likes of Stanton, Myers and Hocking iron out there kicking?

Lots of good points there. Stanton's disposal over all is very good. There is the occasional turnover that looks terrible because he looks like he has time and space to deliver correctly but I'm sure it's a lactic acid issue with the amount of kms he covers.

Like you said of Carlton there, Essendon could have Goddard, Heppell, Stanton and Zaka picking up big numbers on the outside, and using it well with Fletcher, Hibberd and Dempsey racking up numbers from the back half. Equally as important is the half forward pushing up and using it well. We need Jetta to start getting bigger numbers because his ball use is exceptional .... will lead to Ryder kicking more goals too!!

Jetta has been, on the majority, been played out of position. He is not a small forward.

Should be playing high HF/Wing, the link between the midfield and forward line. Has the skill set to do so.

Not sure why people are still waiting for Leroy Jetta to become this handy midfielder they want him to become. He is playing in the forward half for a reason. Tank issues? decision making issues? could be a variety of reasons that none of us are privy to.

I think the point being made was that after Jobe has retired someone needs to fill the breach and that that person could be Myers. If Myers is able to get on the park more and play midfield he could well develop into that classy extra player inside. His left foot penetrates, no doubt about it, but sometimes he seems to thoughtlessly throw on the boot. He turns it into an accurate directed kick to a free player from the centre clearance and we suddenly look a hell of a lot more potent.

Think I'll stick with my Kavanagh, O'Brien, Zaharakis, Heppell, Howlett, Watson, Stanton, Goddard, Winderlich, Myers, Browne, Melksham, Merrett watching just quietly.

I think he took a few years to come on, struggling for form and confidence after hamstring issues. I think he's been stereotyped a bit though because he's indig and quick, and the fact that Davey has had form and injury issues while we have a derth of small forwards. The times he's pushed up at the ball or played on the ball are the times he's played best. Personally I think Zaka will be much better at the "evasive guy in traffic" role, but Jetta is very handy at it and I think that starting on a forward flank and pushing into the midfield and rotating with Zaka is the best for him and the team.

I'd be very excited to see Crameri play as the F50 powerhouse who can also get on his bike. Hurley putting a stamp on the game from CHF and Ryder spending at least 50% of the game deep in forward line with Jetta pushing up to recieve the ball and deliver to Ryder!!! Davey can play small forward and Winderlich can play as a defensive mid who can also lead up, which is a very important part of being the defensive mid because it preoccupies the attacking defender.

Would've thought Stanton was a better kick than Carrazzo and at a similar level to Martin and Sidebottom. Same goes for Myers.

Stanton is prone to the odd shank but generally has a pretty long and accurate kick, would have him above carrazzo as well.
Myers' issue is he tends to not lower his eyes (improving on that front though) but he does get insane penetration, can go 60 off a step.

Couldnt like this more, and Stantons only JUST become reliable. Whether he is this year...

With yet another player to take the hard tag (Goddard); a backline built to deliver by foot, Zaka and Heppell in the middle....... don't be surprised if Stants rocks your ****ing world this year.

And Ben the Gooner will smoke a cigarette in bed.....

Working 3 jobs just so I can afford all the tissues I'll need.

I will sit back and applaud your 'I told you so' tirade if Stants goes all Punisher on the league.

(psst.... you've got my back on the increasingly unlikely Gumby scenario yes?)
