I want to know who is now BTG's favorite player Stanton or Goddard ?

It used to be that Stanton was my favourite Essendon player, Goddard my favourite non-Essendon player and Fyfe my favourite deity but now I need to find a new non-Essendon player.

Stants is still my #1.

Edit: probably Mundy

Stanton to Goddard to Fyfe - That would be nice.:thumbsu:

Many on here reckon Myers is our next clearance specialist.

Am I the only one who reckons he won't make it, not just as a mid, but as a player at EFC, in general?

This is no troll.

I think he lacks the testicular fortitude to stick his head over the pill and is much better suited to using his left foot on the outside, although he does bomb it regularly as mentioned before.

He's built like the proverbial backyard loo but I think he looks like Tarzan and ... you know the rest.

I'd love to be proven wrong though.

Its his ability to win 30 possies that convinced me. And the way he talks about wanting to play in the midfield is somewhat heartening

Just read opening post and nothing else. Pretty confident with our midfield depth and future.

The good thing about guys like Jobe, Stants and Goddard esp the last 2 they arnt that injury prone and have plenty more years left in them.

Zaharakis was also missed from opening post from memory. Him and Heppell look to be our next star type mids. Whilst im pretty confident in Melksham becoming a real solid contributor week in week out, he will thrive when guys like Stanton, goddard, Watson, Hocking move on IMO. Kav also looks the goods although is anything but proven.

We will also get 3-4 more first round draft picks and no doubt more will be attributed to midfielders, some will become really good players.

Havnt talked about Myers i think hes in the Melksham category.

This isn't meant to be as rude as it will probably sound written down. However, here goes.

Did you watch him play last year? While I doubt he'll ever move like he did as a junior due to the amount of weight he's put on and the groin issues that's caused he's moving quite well. As far as anyone I know playing the role he's being groomed for, Watson, Kennedy et al he's more advanced for the same age. Last season in the games he was not injured he got lots of the ball, but more importantly he was winning a lot of it in the contest and even more importantly he was standing up in a tackle and getting to ball off.

I'm very confident he's going to be a player, and a dominant midfielder to boot ...... injuries permitting.

This is what I think

Stanton is prone to the odd shank but generally has a pretty long and accurate kick, would have him above carrazzo as well.
Myers' issue is he tends to not lower his eyes (improving on that front though) but he does get insane penetration, can go 60 off a step.
Kicked a couple from the centre square last year.

You guys honestly think he's soft?

If you're going to have a pop at him, at least target something like his pace or his tunnel vision at times.

Hes certainly no hard nut type. Im not sure if i personally would call him soft but he leads that way. Has since ive seen him from 16 years of age to this time.

Not saying he's a tough nut, but to say he doesn't have the balls to put his head over the ball is just a blatant lie. Never had any reason to question his courage.

Didn't seem soft to me the day we played Collingwood and he ran back with the flight into Cloke and dislocated his finger !!!

For someone who supposedly doesn't put his head over the ball he seems to get a decent amount of clearances when he's in the guts.

He's certainly no Hibbard but to say he is soft is a bit rich.

Dont think i have?

I honestly have no idea where any perception that Myers doesn't put his head over the ball has come from.

As Ben said, he's not a hard nut, battering ram type, but hardness is not his weakness. If anything stands out as his obvious flaw, he bombs it too long at times, which as Jack Package points out, is about not lowering his eyes enough.

I saw enough in 2012 to suggest, to me, that he's working on that with some success, though.

Myers would be in my top ten most important players at EFC; I really rate him. When fit and with some continuity behind him he looks the goods.

Want to see a full NAB Cup from him, all in the middle.

So Howletts top 10 and Myers is top 10 according to may posters lately.

Who out of Watson, Goddard, Stanton, Zaharakis, Heppell, Hurley, Crameri, Ryder, Fletcher misses out? Also TBC, Carlisle, Winders

To be fair, I did say IMPORTANCE to the list. I wouldn't have Fletcher in there; much as I love the old coot he doesn't really factor in when talking about planning (we'll just hold on to him as long as we can).

I haven't done the exercise, and really 'top ten' was just a random number I pulled; but i'll rephrase -

"Myers is very important to us going forward IMO".

Ben the Gooner

I said, even very early on, that Myers biggest problem was decision making, and he still has this issue. Has the body to become the prototype midfielder (Josh Kennedy, Scott Pendlebury 190cm+) but his decision making is an issue. If he just goes first option (which is usually the best) then he can certainly be a serious fixture for our midfield.

I dont think his decision making would be any worse than Kennedys and his disposal certainly isnt. I just dont think he is anywhere near as dynamic or has the intensity levels as Pendlebury or Kennedy. Would be interesting to compare his tackle count to those 2 when he played as a midfielder, usually a fair quantitative analysis with regard to intensity and dynamic ways around the ball.

Myers ideal game plan:

Get ball.

Kick towards goal.

That'll do pig, that'll do.

Kav is not just an outside player. Will be the versatile gun we are crying out for. Judd minus a yard of pace in playing style. Pure midfield instincts.

Keep Luke Davis firmly in mind as a unique mid prospect. Might be the defensive minded player many are asking for.

Jackson merrett in a reserve's game against Collingwood carved it with some precision ball use by foot.

No, I wouldn't.

But hunter is an interesting one. Was on a program designed purely to get him on the park for a few games. With a real preseason, who knows. Showed a bit, insane attack on man and ball.

Lachy needs confidence. Use the pace more and break the lines.
