Hi team :)

Just wondered on what people would do in regards to my midfield this week as it's got me a bit confused...

Midfield is as follows;

Bartel, Corey, Cross, Stevens, Palmer, Cotchin, Jones & Valenti

Yes I understand 99% of people out there have a better midfield than me

My question is with Bartel, Cross and Stevens definates who should the other three positions goto?

Corey v Sydney at SCG
Palmer v St Kilda at S
Cotchin v Hawthorn at MCG
Jones v West Coast MCG
Valenti v West Coast MCG

At the moment I'm thinking Jones, Valenti & Cotchin...

Cheers in advance!

I don't even know who Jones is, but I would certainly play him ahead of Corey.:thumbsu:

Jones is Nathan Jones from Melbourne.

Tipping the Demons v Eagles battle to be a points fest so that's where my contemplation comes from.

corey owns, you would be stupid to not play him. nathan jones is a hack, if he had hair it would most definitely be red.

Umm do not put Corey on the bench, guess his form of late has been worrying but I think he deserves another week...
Of course he deserves another week, especially when this guy has jones, Valenti and cotchin.
If he puts Corey on the bench then he is a total dumbass
i have had corey captain the past month and he has been great

Due to Geelong playing Sydney, I'd put Bartel and Corey on the bench. Both will struggle to crack 100 while the other 6 are certain 120+ scorers week in and week out...

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Nice joke, but seriously, as good as valenti cotchin and jones are For their price there is no way they will outscore bartel and corey

Some people would really, really struggle without BF.

Cynic - please don't put Corey on the bench. I understand your worries about him playing Sydney but he will still produce a solid score regardless of who he plays. Personally I would play Palmer and Valenti but just back your own judgement and wear the results yourself. And please don't make any new threads regarding your one, useless question that is specifically related to your team only (no offence). There is an entire thread called 'AFL Dream Team 2008 Part 5' where you can do that - http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=465839&page=62

What he said.

Why is this question about Corey being

a) Asked
b) Answered

Clearly he's a bench player. Always has been, always will be. Hack, disgrace, joke, spud, muppett.

If a guy can't step up and average 130 over 6 weeks why even hold him. Corey's only averaging 125 and doesn't even look like improving on this.

Exactly, far better options. Van Berlo is averaging 140 odd in the last two, probably worthy of trading Corey out for him :thumbsu:

I think you led with your chin a bit by suggesting you leave Corey out, and it has detracted away from the point of your thread (and you have copped a bit as a consequence!). You would need to be either a supremely confident DTer with an excellent Midfield to contemplate benching him or in need of serious advice - I assume it's the latter!

Sydney do tend to stifle the mids from the opposing teams, even though they are not what they used to be. However, Kirk is a bit slower, Bolton seems to be playing a freer role the last few weeks, Crouch is returning and still looks sore and Luke Ablett is out of form. The others such as Kieran Jack (who junior tore apart last time) are very inexperienced.

There was a time the Kirk factor was the biggest consideration in captaincy choice, but I do not think he shuts his opponents out to quite the extent he used to. The reason we won the '05 GF was that West Coast did not have a forward line so relied on their midfielders to kick goals. Sydney matched up well on the mids, removed the goal scoring ability and came away with the flag. They stifled their run, and were very disciplined.

But rather than harking back on happy memories, I think if you were to choose not to make Corey captain that would be understandable, but never bench a gun in DT it will haunt you at some point. Even if Nathan Jones was to outscore him, it is not the sort of risk you should consider and therefore not the sort of thing you would beat yourself up about later.

D Swan scored very well against Sydney at Telstra Stadium (on a very rubbishy surface) and there is no reason the Cats can't do the same, particularly seieng they will probably dominate possession. Obviously Gablett will cop the majority of the attention.

My recommendation would be Bartel, Corey, Cross, Stevens, Palmer - definites. Cotchin, Valenti or Jones comes down to a matter of you making a decision based on your feel for the scoring potential (obviously). I generally don't make recommendations but I would personally go Cotchin.

Good luck.
