Isn't it funny? Most people would say ling had a dog of a year and to be honest, I didn't think he had a great year either, but lets look at the facts. Last year he was third in our brownlow count finishing above the likes of Ablett, Mooney, Rooke etc etc. He only polled 6 votes but we had a dog of a year and the most we had was 12, you can understand that.
But all these ling knockers have got to look at the facts, in 04 and 05 we had two pretty good years, we were two kicks away from a grand final in 04 and a kick away from a PRELIM final in 05. In these years ling polled 12 (equal 15th) and 13 (equal 11th), this says that Ling goes alright when we are winning.
But in 03 and 02 we didn't have great years, 12th and 9th respectively and he polled 12 (equal 20th) in 03, and 12 (equal 16th) in 02 this says to me that over these four years ling is in the best 20 players in the competition whether Geelong plays good or bad.
He has one bad year and people drop him and say he shouldn't be in Geelong's best 22, c'mon.
In 2005, one year before he was to win the brownlow and 2 years after he had won his first, Adam Goodes only received 7 votes, who dropped him? Who said he wasn't in Sydney's best 22, if u did you would be laughed at.
So before you go out and bag a quality player who is proven at the highest level in the country, think that he might just be having a bad year or that he is not fully fit, or that the team isn't traveling. Look back at what Ling has done for Geelong, not what he hasn't.
