Midfield Rotation

Is this useless for us??

Once again today, we did it through our midfield and it does nothing for us. Take Powell for example.

He comes on, and really gives us drive through the midfield. As soon as he get's into his groove......BOOM! Daniher decides to take him off for rotation. Now, I know the guy has come back from injury etc., but he has played 3-4 games prior to today and has not pulled up sore at all.

So, why not keep him on for crying out loud?? Rotation stinks. The midfielders get into a groove and then are taken off, and then when they come back on it takes them time to get back into it, and then they are taken off again. It really hurts us through the middle.

Keep the ones that are dominating on, and rest them for 5-10 minutes at the end of the First Half. That should be all they need if they are fit. The rotation does not work, and it showed today.

completly agree. they take them all off way too much. they should let them settle and get into the footy... and its not like it was really hot and they needed a rest!!

but anyways, i must say that the midfeild didn't play too badly... i think our forward line was shocking! but hey, it can and will be fixed. i must say - i was REALLY impressed with vardy's 2 snaps at goal!

Yep, Vardy in his first two games for the club have been fantastic and he is proving to be a good asset for the club.

We lost it in the last quarter by bombing forward without looking. Neitz can't beat three and Bruce and Green are not tall enough.

Firstly I don't think midfield rotation is bad, I think the players that are taken off though shouldn't be those that are dominating, if a player is having little impact, or just steady, sure change him for some fresh legs.

And on today's game I thought it really was shocking, to get away with a 20 point loss is so, so lucky. We where soft, no pressure on the ball carrier, not enough pressure on marking contests, coughing up the ball too easily. Against Hawthorn we where patient in moving the ball forward, it seems today that play went out the window, it was bomb it long and hope today, which was never going to work with spare talls such as Stafford taking easy, easy marks.

Next week should see the return of both Jolly and Ellis, and I am confident in the fact we can play allot better than that, and also by the fact we where still in it until midway through the last.

too true. also we need players to man up more (alot more), and get a lead on the players looking after them. they had it the past few weeks... dunno what happened today.

Today was in one word wasteful. So many STUPID mistakes and careless kicks!
ND seemed to be going a little overboard with the whole rotation thing, taking people like Powell, Whitey and Chell off although they all had great games. At one crucial stage he took Whitey off and let Nicho ruck which was redicilous! If you want to rest Woey than bring Jolly into the side but don't take Nicho away from CHB and bring him to do the rucking which I'm sorry but he cannot do!
Not only was our forward line falling apart at times with Schwarta barely getting on the ground and Neita having a bad day and once again giving away stupid free kicks, but the disposal within the forward 50 was stupid too. I think its a lot of confidence which just burnt us at times when players decided to go for goal instead of give it away etc... The last quarter was a perfect example of Melbourne's downfall. Too many scrappy kicks not enough determination. I think its silly to say that we ran out of legs because we were just fine against Hawthorn and Port where the conditions were far worse. Our downfall came from being too relaxed, too lazy and just too wasteful and thats a real shame because we could have won that game... no doubt about that.

You have to remember we were coming off two six day breaks in a row. It never helps and it showed in the last quarter. Also, we have to be careful with Powell. He probably can't play a full game yet.

you can't use comming off 6 days as an excuse... i mean really - lost of teams have to do it throughout the season, aswell as traveling, and we didn't have to travel. i think the 6 days thing is just trying to take the easy way out of us having played really badly.

having said that, i went to the sandy match today, and almost all of the players were there and they were all in quite good moods - apart from robbo, but everyone else was though!

Yeah I agree the 6 day thing is no excuse.
If anyone saw Woey this morning and World of Sports on channel 7, he was saying that yesterday was pretty disapointing but that they are very pleased with the last couple of games and that they are looking to continue on.
I think that one game is not the end of the world, Richmond came off a pretty bad lose and were hungry and yeah maybe we were a bit tired, maybe a tad too confident with our last quarter run and we ran away with the game plan and just ruined the end of the game when it was up for grabs. But I don't think anyone in the club is really very upset over that lose, we got plenty of positives to look at and like Mishy said everyone we saw around today was pretty happy.

It is a fair excuse. It is hard to back up after 2 six day breaks in a row, while our opposition have had at least two seven day breaks. Also, the two games we have played in were in hot conditions, Richmond played at night.

I think the tigers had an eight day break??? I heard that on Fox Footy, not sure if I am right.

Girls, coming off two 6 day breaks in a row IS hard stuff, regardless of how fit you are. It catches up with you.

Yes and I am sure the girls are very tired from perving after two six day breaks.

 back to your old charming self I see!
Anyways if ND went out and said that the 6 day break was the reason we lost, tell me you would not laugh at him and tell us all he's in denial. Sure its hard coming off a 6 day break but our team was at full strenght while Richmond had two key players out so that evens it out more or less I say. The last quarter was pathetic and thats the reason we lost the game, not coz we were tired but coz we just lost a bit of touch and let them get away with it.
