Does anybody know how the midfield rotations work in this game?

I've created a completely custom team, and I start with a bench that has a backup centre, ruck rover and ruckman/forward.

With interchanges on balanced, throughout the match the 3 midfielders in the centre will be predominantly the three starters. Later in the match, some other players will rotate through there, such as the half backs, and occasionally even the back up ruckman (wtf?), but never my backup mids. They sit on the bench unless I manually put them in the middle.

Is there any way to make sure the players I want and only the players I want rotate through the middle? Is it related to a specific stat?

Not sure how it works. I noticed once while doing the pre-game lineup selection that I accidentally put Mitch Brown as a rover. I quickly took him out and put him at CHB before saving, but halfway through the game found him part of the centre rotation again with automatic interchanges. So based on that you'd have to put a player in the centre, and then out again, for them to be a rotation.

But I'm not sure. Would be interesting for Ross to explain perhaps.
