Two weeks in a row we were outnumbered all over the park, no matter where the ball was, we lack hard-runners, and skill of course.

Watson needs to be dropped, I don't care about his clearances or contested possessions, Hird and JJ can do that, they gotta do something, but he is slow, can't kick and yesterday could hardly even handball well.

You'd be barking up the wrong tree if you regard Hird as still being a hard runner. He spent the majority of the game out on the wing yesterday. Our days of relying on him to do something special to turn a game around every week are all but over.

It's got me thinking that we can't play all of JJ, Hird, Watson, Pev in the same side.

Hird does not have the running ability anymore so I guess if he plays then Watson must go.

In saying that though we have played at the G which is a bigger ground and has exposed over the last few years 1-12 win loss. These holes might not be as big at Telstra Dome.

Watson shouldn't have played.

How come winderlich escapes criticism? The amount of times he ran into trouble and did his 'blind handball' over the shoulder to either no one or a hawforn player was disgraceful.

I cannot see why we persisted with McPhee on franklin for 2 or so quarters.

Because we have a stubborn old man as our our coach!

Yeah, fair enough, and having Jim floating out of the forward pocket might be it. Even in Sheedy's tenure we used to dominate the MCG. It's sad to think other teams are out muscling us there, or we're too lazy to play at the home of the GF.

JJ, Pev, Stants are hard enough to get into the packs around centre bounces, and I'm intersted in seeing McVeigh there more often. Hearing Misiti and matthew Knight's helping out with coaching the midfielders gives me some heart, but I think I'd cream myself if I saw a slick centre break with 2 direct handballs to a running davey coming past delivering to Johns leading out of the goal square - and to repeat for consecutive goals!

I haven't seen a scenario like that for about five years.

Looking at Saturdays game I feel the greatest problem with our midfield is our running brigade. We won the clearences and smashed in the inside 50s.

Our main problem was rebounding from the opposition 50. I feel we lack true rebounding players that can break the lines at the moment, we need to look at bringing Nash, Cole and NLM into the team in the next few weeks at the expense of M.Johnson and Bolton who offer no run and little in the way of future development.

Our running players under performed Winderlich, Dyson, Monfries, Lovett all under performed on Saturday. This group needs to be strengthened and expanded. Houli and Lonergan should be automatic ins next week.

I dont want to see our in and under group broken up. With our ruck problems we need a lot of grunt to remain competitive in the centre clearances. Although personally I think that Hird should spend more time forward and only spend time in the middle when either Watson is off the ground or we are getting beaten in the clearances.

I really like this thread because the title is exactly what i said before round 1. People were quick to jump on saying no we've got GUNS in our midfield and i'd love to no which they are. But also its not only our midfield that has been bad of late. Monfries should be dropped hes been terrible over the last month along with mj and also i think hird should not play this week. He looks disinterested at the moment and it shows by the way he's been playing.
