Midfielders in the draft

He isnt slow at all, from my knowledge he actually won a 400m state underage title.

Masten and Palmer are to two. Trade whoever it takes and get them both.

You have to be prepared to let go a Mundy, Drum, Duffield, Peake, Schammer, Dodd, Warnok, Sandilands. To get a top eight pick. Or one of those players with a Campbell, Thornton, Dunn, Browne, Murphy Webster plus some of our Draft picks. We have to Target Richmond Carlton Melbourne and any other club in the bottom eight in order to get top eight draft picks. Otherwise ByeBye Matsen Palmer Morton and any other top talent out there.

Would be prepared to trade the ones in bold, even though I am a big fan of Mundy, Drum and Webster. The reality is the club needs these to really target these young guns.

Ebert will go top ten, I'd be happy to select him if Masten and Palmer are gone. Ebert is closer to what we need than Morton.

Assuming Masten and Palmer go top five I reckon Pavlich, Sandilands, McPharlin and possibly Warnock would be our only players that would get us a pick early enough to get them. Port didn't get a top ten pick for Josh Carr 3 years ago, people are kidding themselves when they suggest trading mediocre players for early draft selections.

Doubt we'd get a first rounder for Dodd and Schammer. We would be very lucky to get a 2nd rounder for Duffield, probably third round.

Thornton, Browne, Dunn and Webster have close to no trade value, maybe a late 3rd rounder for Dunn.

Morton is going to be some sort of footballer, Dom...

His disposal is immaculate...

So is Mundy's, and he's close to my least favourite player.

I've only seen Morton play once, but to me he looks like an outside finisher. We have Headland, Mundy and Drum who can receive and drive the ball inside 50. We need someone with pace and skill who wins their own ball in the middle.

Bell might retire. Hasleby is injury prone. Who plays in the centre square with Josh and Sandilands/Warnock?

I'd go:
  1. Palmer -seems a tad quicker than Masten and a better goalkicking mid.
  2. Masten-great all round footballer with good skills, a ball magnet.
  3. Ebert- good size and good in the air, possibly the complete package
  4. Rioli- another goalkicking onballer who has silky skills
  5. Selwood- good size although maybe not overly pacey.
If we ever managed to snag 1 possibly two of those we'd be set for a few years to come.

As a KPP and if available later in the draft and although not a full back i'd go for Gourdis(CHF)

Given that Kruezer will go number 1, or certainly before our pick, one of those will be available. Plus there is Cotchin, another good midfielder.

Assuming we lose to port and/or melbourne. It's highly unlikely that we'll scrape into 8th if we win both, but with carlton unlikely to win again we will probably end up with pick 9 if we win both games.

I have a feeling Richmond will take Cotchin, Melbourne will go Selwood and not sure on Carlton after that. We need to make sure we stay fifth over Essendon.

The captain of Vic Metro was very good and basically tried to drag his team through the WA game, sounds like he has a lot of heart for a young man. Jack Grimes I think it was. There is also Levi Greenwood for Port Adelaide who has been tearing it up of late, a bit better than Ebert but not as good.

Trying to engineer where you finish for draft picks is madness. There are half a dozen good midfielders and we will get one of them. Of course the lower we finish the more options we have, but I expect several of Palmer, Masten, Ebert, Morton or Rioli will be available, and any one of them will improve us in the future. For me, the first three are near enough to perfect fits, but the others would still be fine.

We will beat melbourne but it is doubtful we will beat port. so
that should leave us in roughly 12th or 13th, assuming that carlton dont win another game they will have pick one and 3, leaving freo with pick 5 or 6.

hoplefully palmer is available so we can use our first pick for him. as for trading for draft picks. i think murphy has some currency, particularly to richmond. i also think hasleby has some currency. i believe hasleby is on the way out. he is injury prone, less consistant and is demanding a pay increase when i think most people believe he needs a decrease in pay.

look at trading those two and we may be able to find another first round pick. therefore two players go, and we will find ourselves with two very good young players. of course for us to be successful next year, a lot relies on peter bell playing on. if bell retires i think they will keep hasleby, in that case maybe we should look at getting rid of schammer, or maybe we just have to settle for the one first round pick.

what i do know though, is that we need to inject the midfield with some young fast skillfull players. i just hope phil smart doesnt screw up like he has in the past.

Getting rid of Schammer would be an almighty screw up.. the guy has so much potential and is our youngest midfielder. We'd effectively be trading Schammer for an unproven guy who is 4 years younger and 4 years less experienced, and is effectively a lottery at AFL level. At least we know butthead can cut it in finals style pressure. The best iron is forged in the fire. Schammer has been forged, we just need to use him right. Getting a random... we could put him in the fire and could crack. You don't know. But we know never to get rid of PROVEN final performers.
