I guess the reality is that if a club thinks it's midfield is okay, and has other areas that need development, then the midfield is possibly the quickest to turn around. If you can get the right player they can have an immediate impact, and if we get either Muston, Palmer, Ebert or Selwood, then I would expect that they will get significant game time next season. As we have seen with players like Murphy, it can take a fair bit longer for bigger players.

Brett Peake and Garrick Ibottson immediately come to mind.
2 players in 5 years, thats one hell of a CV.
Murphy + Tarrant for Farren Ray + Pick 5. Gives us pick 5 and 6 in the draft (roughly), plus another midfield option with some pace.
i think murphy has some currency, particularly to richmond. i also think hasleby has some currency.
Look at our midfield stocks compared to our key defensive stocks. I wouldn't be at all suprised if the club had Alex Rance, Tom Collier, Steve Gaertner etc at the top of the wish list.

I just hope phil smart doesnt screw up like he has in the past.
Our list management team have until now traded for their immediate needs and instructed Phil Smart to draft the best available player. It's not his fault that Icke and Connolly didn't instruct him to draft more midfielders.
If a player like Drum, who Smart had as a top six selection, is available at pick ten he is doing his job to reccomend that we draft him. It is up to his superiors to say no, we don't need another 190cm utility, who do you rate as the best of the available midfielders (Richard Douglas, Darren Pfeiffer, Travis Varcoe, Matt Riggio, Andrew Swallow, Shaun Higgins).

I don't know that I believe all this about CC/Icke instructing people to get particular types or not. I still remember Smart on the radio 6pr saying that he thought Freo needed a power forward and a well built utility, three or so weeks before trade week. Then up pop Tarrant and Solomon!

), so no need to take it too seriously, but some of these guys watch a lot of underage footy, and know a bit about what they are talking about. Interesting to see how they rate it.
