Hard to disagree with anything that was said.

I too am getting sick of the spin and rhetoric coming out of the joint on a weekly basis.

He said

-Brendan McCartney just says the same thing after every loss. All positive spin.

-We had 13 players from the 2010 prelim playing on Saturday night and carlton were missing 10 out of their best 22 (is this correct)

-He is really worried about the future of the club. David Smorgon seems disinterested as he has remained quite and is hardly heard of these days.

-Had a crack at Liam Jones who can't even get a game in a battling team

-Praised Dahlhaus

13 from 2010 prelim? Thats hard to believe, if it true its pretty sad how badly most of those 13 have fallen off. Boyd, Griffin, Minson and to an extent Cross the only ones that would be playing at any level close to 2010.

Yeah we had 11. 12 if you include Hargrave who was emergency, so he was pretty much on the money.

Hard to look back on that game, Ward 30 touches. :(

Hope Ward enjoys his money. One thing that made me sick was the players not seeming to give a shit about him taking the money. Still angers me he played that last round against Freo. No doubt he made up his mind half way through last year as he appeared to not go as hard in the 2nd half of the year.

Agree with everything he said.

It all starts at the top. We need a new president with some energy soooo badly.

Gerard Healy definitely sees something in our list. Was buoyant about us earlier in the year and defended jones on the couch.

And I don't begrudge any player for taking the money.

Losing him hurts so bad though. Local boy. Would have been captain one day.

But great clubs just get on with it. Geelong lost the best player in the game and won the comp the next year.

He played his best football in second half of year, first half of year he was ordinary, he may have made mind up by mid year but you can't say he didn't go in as hard as he played his best footy in second half of year, yes it hurts he left, yes it has hurt list, but need to move on.

lmfao what a dumb argument, being a "prelim player" doesnt automatically make you good. Furthermore players can go backwards. You can sack 10 players come the prelim, bring 10 players from the VAFA in and they would earn the title of "prelim player", doesnt make them better than the side Carlton fielded.

Shit journo tbh.

Agreed. I'd say a fair part of the reason we made the prelim is a certain 80 goal a year forward. They're pretty tricky to replace.

Agree with both of the above. The side we fielded in the prelim was a stinker because we scraped our way there after losing Cooney to that hammy and Morris who we are seeing now is just so important. The reason we were worthy of that spot in the prelim is because we had great run out of defence Harbrow (gone) and a younger Murph and Gilbs, as Igloo said we had an 80 goal full forward, we had Cooney for most of that year (he actually wasn't that bad in 2010 until the hammy), Brian Lake had been fit all year until the Geelong thrashing we copped, and we had an amazing on field leader who won 6 aa's and had also kicked 70 odd goals in a season, and we had Callan Ward. AND Boyd, Cross, Lake, Murph and Gilbs were younger and better.

Think of what we've lost. has st kilda copped that? no Geelong haven't lost as many great players as us and their bigger exodus(last year) has hurt them this year to.

Turn it up.

It's not ridiculous that we lost to Carlton. We were about as experienced as them, and their experienced players played better than ours. Murphy, Gibbs, Jamison, Yarran, Betts all optimum age. For us, Higgins(who got injured) Picken, Minson and Griffen and MAYBE Grant who played well after being taught a bit more. But they want us to stop letting Jones develop on this new tuition and get triple teamed in the 1's again?

nb: i loved Grants game. saw a lot of the "staying around the ball" and fierce defensive pressure. knows how to kick a goal too.

BM has brought in some changes the last few weeks. He brought in pace in Vez, Tutt, grant and Pearce. These guys will take a few games to hit top gear. His also thrown Williams forward which to me is the best move yet. He just looks like a forward and it's only 2 games back.

We are a rabble now but good things are coming. Players like Howard, Cordy, roughy, austin are only gonna get better via will take time.

We were ordinary on Sat night in the second half, but in terms of Carlton's start to the year, beating Collingwood twice and supposed to be top 4 this year, says to me that they looked worse than us on Sat night I thought. Doesn't say much for their list, but also doesn't say much for ours either

So 13 players, from one of the most one sided non-contest finals I've ever seen. As I recall, the media built that game up as a total laydown misere, and it lived up. 2 years on, we have the same core group, 2 years older, but with much the cream skimmed off, and a revolving door of players under 30 games. I havn't looked at the players listed, but I'm pretty confident most those 13 would have been getting on in age in 2010. Eade was coaching for the short term and the payoff didn't come. Wow, who would have thought we'd gone backwards by 2012?

Beyond that, yes we should have won last weeks Carlton game, not because of the players fielded, but because of the way we played for 3 and half quarters and then died in the arse. That's the stuff that kills you as a supporter. I don't care how many player Carlton had out.

BMac's spin getting on everyone's nerves (including mine) because to be honest it's not what anyway wants or needs to hear. But he has a message, and he will stay on message until either the team comes good or he gets the sack. Seems to be his way, which, as I've stated elsewhere, is all about the 'long game'. I'd be very surprised if he wasn't privately livid that we didn't get the job done, but he'll stick to his guns.

Smorgon's probably got his head down because he talked up this 'refresh' line when we sacked Eade, and clearly that is not what is transpiring. What is he going to say now? "Sorry, but it turns out we actually are going to be shit for the foreseeable future and I was talking utter rot". Maybe he has lost some spark because we are back to being a poor side for the time being, and that's whole new campaign for the ol' warhorse. Maybe he's just biding his time until we actually have some runs back on the board to talk about.

Are there any real contenders for the Pres anyway? If so, please stand up and let have it out. Dimma can piss off as far as I'm concerned. Perhaps Sue Alberti, but TBH I know nothing about her. Surely Chris Grant is the heir in waiting, and Smorgo is playing out his time until Granty gets enough of a handle on things.

Oh, whilst Sheehan has supposedly retired and should stay there, if Gerard Healy sees the upside in our list, then that's the worst thing I've heard all year, because the man is prematurely senile.

Footy is a winning game....once you lose then everything is bad....the coach is no good, the team is too old...no hang on too young...recruiting is poor and the preseident must be crap....these things were being said about West Coast at the start of last season.

Mike has to say something, but raising the fact that there was a core group of senior players there on Saturday night means exactly what? In footy today, often the difference between your best and worst can be 2 or 3 players let alone 10 or more.

The main reason we have dropped off so badly...is we don't have a forward line at all. It was always the issue this year, we hoped Jones or someone would be able to step up...they didn't .....not yet.

Things are never as bad in footy as the media make out....remember they have to come up with stuff to talk about 24/7....most of it you have to take with a grain of salt.
