Funny how Sheahan's opinion about us going from a prelim in 2010, to being 15 out of 18 is pretty ordinary of us as a footy club.

Looking back through recent history, teams fall off pretty quickly as a general rule.

Look at West Coast as an example.

2006 Premiership winners.

2008. Finished 15th out of 16, won 4 games and had a percentage of 65.88.

We deserve the blast from Sheahan, just like we deserve all the bad press from all who give it. We have the longest premiership drought in the AFL/VFL, no wonder people don't ever rate our club.

I thought Mike was a Melbourne fan?
I called him once (over a pretty biased article against us) and he told me all of that.

Since then he has claimed to be a Melbourne supporter, but I doubt that Dees fans take him seriously.
Actually, I doubt anyone takes him seriously...

We are crap, plain and simple, get used to the pot shots. We are making baby steps forward, you just have to grit your teeth and cop the next couple of years and hope we are in good hands, because it is still far too early to tell if Macca is the man.

I do agree that Smorgo is stale and a change at the top is needed. Alberti I think would make a good president, but does anyone else think Granty is being groomed for the top job and will take over from Smorgon in 1-2 years?

Bay 13 is Bay 13.

Go and check the posts I've made on you guys all year, main board etc: Big wrap for McCartney, has you guys playing the kind of solid hard at it footy that you build a base from, great kids like Dahlhous and Smith (really like Smith). You have a long way to go but the start is there. Nail this draft and you'll be seeing good signs soon enough.

He's dead right here too. The new plan will eventually click, and it'll be towards the second half of next year, when guys like Dahl, Wallis, Libba, Jones all have another pre-season under their belts and will begin to reach the fitness bases required to be gun AFL players.
From what I've seen with North's kids, it takes a bit longer than that to get the kind of bodies needed to be genuinely successful, especially in the mids. We're not there yet and you guys are starting from two or years in development back. But I agree by end of next season you'll be seeing the first glimpses of what McCartney is really trying to do and which players are responding/improving as a result.

I'd normally agree but the players he mentioned are already putting up pretty good numbers except for Jones. I think as early as next year you could pencil in Libba/Wallis to be getting 25 touches a week. Smith/Dahlhaus/Jones will take some time though.

They may well be getting 25 touches but they won't have the bodies to really compete against the established guns. Ryan Bastinac can get 25 touches against some teams, but gets smashed by the likes of Sewell and Mitchell.

That's not a criticism of Libba/Wallis who I rate very highly, more a statement of fact.

I suppose so. Just looked up their stats against the hawks. Both a bit under their average with 19 and 17 disposals. Both well below with their clearance stats in that game also.

Anything written in Bay 13 shouldn't be taken serious, you are meant to troll if posting in there. Don't think some people get the whole idea. The other boards are for serious footy talk

It's Mike Sheahan. That's S-H-E-A-H-A-N. It's personal... :p
Curly is correct. Dr Alberti will be a fine president of our club.

I understand that Sheahan has been a Bulldogs supporter since the 70s - about 35 years I've heard. ;)
Did anyone else pick up on these interesting implications?

They need to throw whatever money they have at recruiting.

If the choice is between an assistant coach or recruiter it should be the recruiter. Is our recruiting as good as other clubs. You would say no. Now more then ever with have to nail it with recruiting.

Hmm now that I look back on it, I have actually overrated Dalrymple a bit he has only had a few hits.

2009: Howard, Tutt (2 out of 9) (I consider Markovic and Moles busts)
2010: Dahlhaus, JJ. (2 out of 7) (His best work, unlucky to lose Schofield who I rated heavily. Wallis + Libba not included as I would have drafted them, Hill slight chance to make it I suppose)
2011: Early to judge but Dickson, Campbell and Redpath were heavily influenced selections by McCarthy and Grant. Dalrymples assessment will be based on Smith, Talia, Pearce, Jong, Greenwood and Austin.

One thing is for sure though as I have said many times, Dalrymple is our sole national recruiter and he needs more help (rich clubs have huge teams of recruiters).

Very very harsh on Dalrymple. Markovic was drafter as a stop gap solution and nothing else and he's fulfilled that. Unfair to say 2/7 because he had two locks. 2/5 is fairer. Out of the rest of the 2011 draft, Greenwood is the only bust so far, and he is rookie listed so you expect that.

I included rookie draft along with with main draft so he actually has 4/9 but reduced to 2/7 because of the F/S locks.

For 2011 I said it is too early to judge, none of them can be labelled busts as of now, Greenwood apparently played his best game for VFL seniors last week as depicted in an article on the dogs site so I wouldnt be writing him off as a bust.

My mistake. Didn't think we took on 4 rookies that year.

I'd labelled Greenwood based on what I've personally seen... he runs around in circles without actually doing much. He's a reasonable user of the ball but doesn't seem to have a footy brain.

You are rating Howard, Tutt and JJ as successes??????

How badly are we going. You may well be right in the long run but it seems way to early to credit them as good picks. Howard in particular is a maybe at best. Has he even got a BOG for Willi in all his time there?

At this stage only Dahlhaus can be put down as a good choice. Time will tell on the others.

Sounds like Drew Petrie six years ago. Kid needs to grow into his body and has the unteachable ability to clunk a big mark. Certainly did against us. Can play. Time.
Save your breath dude, they'll see the light one day and realise the sins of there short sightedness...
