You're not doing much to break down those perceptions people have of Richmond supporters being illiterate and stupid.

Take of the rose colored glasses, check what was posted, then try and comprehend. Better still, go and enjoy the premiership and stop trolling BF for a pat on the back and some ego fluffing from every other poster who's team didn't win and really couldn't give a s**t that you did. Well... Maybe Adelaide fans.... But they seem to be in short supply here so go do us all a favour and go stand in Rundle Mall and start espousing your crap there. You might get the reaction you want.

literally a thousand times better, would swap rance and cotch though

I was a big fan of how Cotch changed his role this season.
Turned himself into a bit of a battering ram and led from the front in terms of pressure and ferocity.
I was millimetres away from putting him ahead of Danger to be honest.

can definitely see your train of thought, its definitely been a case of less stats but much better output from cotch this year

tldr but I could still taste the salt:'(

He's better even though he loses 3 times as many contests as Gov? If Gov played in Vic for a big four club the media there would be creaming themselves and calling him better than SOS. Not saying he is but the gap between Rance and McGovern is minimal at best.
Rarely a game where Rance doesnt deliver he's been that way for at least 4 years, easily the best defender in the competition, sure some are as good on their day but few if any are as consistently as good as Rance.

This season Mcgovern lost 6% of contests. The next best? Rance, losing 18% of contests. Now I'm not necessarily implying that Gov is better than Rance but they're not exactly far apart. Gov was also lost the least amount of contests last season to the midway point only losing one out of 60+. The rest were either won or halved.

The other thing to consider is who each player plays on? If Astbury's taking the best forward then maybe he should be getting more plaudits for allowing Rance to play off his man? Ditto with Gov and having Emac and Barrass to do the same for us. Be interesting to compare the 2 and which opponents they typically play on although at the end of the day one's a FB and the other CHB.

Yes. Rance is clearly the best defender in the comp by a large margin. No defender has the impact he does. Theres a lot of defenders that are as good as him in a single area. But Rance is the entire package and then on top of that is a defender that actually changes games and then on top of that a great leader.

Its nothing to do with Vic or the big 4. Eagles fans said the EXACT same s**t when Rance beat Mackenzie out for AA in 2014.

Bont is your classic so overrated he's underrated. Definitely had a lot of s**t games this year, it was a year played in patches.

Conversely, he polled 19 brownlow votes, all of which he deserved, was AA squad, b n f winner and top 4? in the coaches player of the year with 3 weeks to go.. pair that with an epic last year and very strong 2015 and he's about where he should be. the list is flooded with recency bias as it is. people need to calm down.

Gov is Miles ahead of Emac at his best, just as Rance is. Emac had a stand out year but his kicking has always been suspect. Gov is the complete package as far as key defenders go, as is Rance.

Sure. But as I said Rance has that extra thing that just makes him special and better than anyone else.
The impact he has on games is unlike any other defender. The way he reads the play, leaves his man to go to another contest and it never backfires, the desperation spoils, the one on one wins, the contested marks, the rebounds out of defense.
Theres a reason hes in the conversation of the best of defender of all time. And its nothing to do with Vic bias.

Rance is the greatest defender of all time. People might point to bodies of work, or great opponents in the past, but no one has done what he does. Back in the day being a defender was beating your man, who was usually a good player. Well for most of the AFL it's still mainly that and the basic aerial protection of your backline. But with Rance, he basically scares you from kicking the ball forward. He's like a forcefield that spans 40 metres. It's f*#*ked
