Kennedy would comfortably make our best team.

In fact he's exactly the sort of midfielder we're screaming out for.

Would be the perfect player to block for Judd and Murphy.

Not sure he should be as high as 26 but he is an excellent footballer.

Pendlebury is spot on...gun!

Cloke over Buddy is out of kilter.

I like Glass but if WCE in 2011 had the choice of losing Cox or Glass, they would dump glass every time. This tells me his ranking is overrated.

The Cloke thing is arguable based on KPP vs mids and player importance.

Swan was gifted the brownlow this year...shouldn't be so high.

I quickly jotted down yesterday who I thought the top 10 would be, they were all extremely obvious except for Glass. He's a good player, but c'mon...just proves what previous posts have said about the fallibility of one man's opinion.

I remember when Fev destroyed him at Etihad a few years back. Not so simple when your midfield is a total joke. Cox over Glass any day of the week.

10. Darren Glass -- had a great year but I'd rather have Jamo. Best KPD (overall TOTAL performance) in the comp this year though. Fair call. I agree that I'd rather have Cox than Glass which hurts to say that as I loathe the guy as he comes off as a dead set wanker.
9. Sam Mitchell -- If it's based on this season's performance should be higher.
8. Joel Selwood -- Arguably BOG in the GF but about right.
7. Lance Franklin -- I was really thinking he'd be #1 or #2. Bad call, Mike.
6. Chris Judd -- A case could be made for both ways. Poor finals series could have had him slightly lower, home and away season higher. Not as important to our team as Buddy is to the Hawks though.
5. Dane Swan -- Finally got shown up in the Grand Final. When the cheap possessions go out of the game Swan is absolutely nowhere to be seen. A bigger downhill skier than Leon Davis.
4. Marc Murphy -- Love Murph and I'm glad Sheehan rates him so highly but again I honestly would take Buddy over Murph but I'd take Murphy over Cloke.
3. Travis Cloke -- Should be below Murphy and Buddy but I can see it.
2. Gary Ablett -- I'd have put him at three but that's merely because I rate Buddy's importance to a team that was robbed of a GF berth more highly.
1. Scott Pendlebury -- Best. Player. In. The. Game. FAR from it being his fault that the Pies got beaten in the GF. Stood up when the rest of the team went missing.

My Top Ten

1. Scott Pendlebury
2. Buddy Franklin
3. Gary Ablett Jr
4. Marc Murphy
5. Travis Cloke
6. Chris Judd
7. Joel Selwood
8. Sam Mitchell
9. Dane Swan
10. Dean Cox

Overall, Sheehan did a pretty reasonable job. There were a few  players but that's to be expected.

Agree it's a reasonable job but disagree with a few. I agree with you Wickzki that Swan is too high, but agree with Sheahan's assessment of Buddy v Cloke. In my opinion Cloke is the premier big man in the game.

As for Pendles number 1, can't disagree there. The guy is an absolute gun.

Swap Pendlebury for Murphy and Cloke for Franklin and I think that would be a pretty good assessment. Great to see Scotland and Simmo being recognised.

Franklin Vs Cloke - season 2011 - Buddy's stats first

Games: 22 Vs 25
Disposals: 18.2 (11.4k and 6.9h) Vs 15.6 (12.6k and 3.0h)
Marks: 5.9 Vs 7.7
Goals: 3.7 Vs 2.8
Behinds: 2.8 Vs 1.9
Tackles: 3.3 Vs 2.8
I50s: 2.5 Vs 5.1
Goal Assists: 0.7 Vs 0.5
Goals Contributed: 4.4 Vs 3.2

What's beautiful about this one is that Travis is 36 days older. This battle of the forwards really could mimic the battles of Lockett Vs Dunstall Vs Ablett from the mid-late 80s, early 90s. You can make arguments that stick both ways. Travis marks more and is responsible for more inside 50s (he plays CHF, so it's a natural result) but Buddy gets more of the ball, has more scoreboard pressure (a result of playing at FF rather than CHF) yet I think the difference here is on the defensive pressure which is where the game is headed and where Buddy has it over Travis. Still, he applies too much pressure sometimes leading to silly free kicks and reports so while it's a huge plus it also has its drawbacks.

How so

I would prefer them too

That's some BlueBias alright. :thumbsu:

Nice try though, needed the laugh.
Statistically there is about 1 tackle between them so it is a close call and for mine Murph gets a lot more attention as I think the opposition think they can hurt the little guy

Its one persons opinion. Just like me or anyone else would find some of your top 50 selections to be a joke joke joke.
i understand what it is... doesn't mean i cant judge his opinion. if i thought armfield was the best player in the league would you just accept that as my opinion or would you rip me a new one

yours truly,

the joker

Marks are the big ones that stand out for mine.

Cloke leading in the marks (And I guarantee the contested marks by a big margin). Big reason why he deserves top 10.

The I50 count is skewed IMO. Would normally suggest that Cloke played further up the ground than Buddy, but anecdotally I reckon it may have been the other way around.

Cloke gets more than a few from Collingwoods forward press, and marking just outside the 50 arc more often than Buddy.

Cloke can kick a ball a mile (those 2 GF goals in the frist Q he had no buisiness kicking were simply amazing), but when Franklin is goal side of his defender, and running towards goal, you are not going to catch him.

Would have Buddy over Cloke just in a tight one.

That said, it wasnt Buddys best year, and it certainly was for Cloke.

Cloke needs another year performing at this level before Im totally sold on his ability.

Clearly you have yet to watch much football media. It is his arrogant, pompous attitude in interviews. He also comes off extremely anti-Carlton (even when the Eagles have no upcoming game against us) rubs me the wrong way as well. Is not the sharpest tool in the shed yet behaves as though he is. He was on the Footy Show a few weeks back with Andrew Embley advertising his pub/restaurant. Andrew Embley, who admittedly is one of his best mates (and business partner at said restaurant) was taking the piss out of him for being aloof.

Statistically there is about 1 tackle between them so it is a close call and for mine Murph gets a lot more attention as I think the opposition think they can hurt the little guy
Love Murphy, don't get me wrong. However, Pendlebury is a proven champion on the biggest stage of all. He even displayed that in a losing grand final. When all of his teammates went missing he stood up under pressure. He elevated his performance in an effort to make up for his teammates drop off. Until Carlton make it to the Grand Final I'm sorry but it's Pendles over Murphy. Murphy is becoming quite the finals player himself.

Don't understand Glass.

Isn't playing on the no. 1 forward anymore, that's Mckenzie's job, but he isn't racking it up or hurting the opposition with creative playmaking either. TBH I think he is clearly on the slide.

Looked up some stats for Glass:

1%ers (avg): 3.9
Marks (avg): 4.0
R50's (avg): 1.9
Disp (avg): 11
Tackles (avg): 2

Backs up exactly what I thought. Glass hasn't been as good as in previous years, never was a great playmaker, and now isn't taking the no.1 fwd

so who would you rather have - Pendlebury or Judd
great question. right now i'd take pendles based simply on the fact that he is younger and can still improve. if both were at the same age however it would be judd. you dont find players like pendlebury often same goes for judd but pendles is what 6'4 and moves like he does ! yes i know judds tall to but i think his height might be 2cms above what he actually is.
