MIN MIN LIGHTS LEAVES HIS RIVALS IN THE DARK AGAIN
Currently New South Wales can’t boast many top free for all horses. The best of the current crop is the Dubbo trained Karloo Mick but with the rising ten year old fighting a losing battle with Father Time, the state has been screaming out for its next big star. While Min Min Lights still has a long way to go before reaching the highest echelon in the sport if his recent performances are anything to go on it won’t be too long until he is racing the best in the country.

The reason I'm starting a new thread is that I think this horse deserves one. His average winning margin in April was 20 metres!

Easily the most improved pacer in the country since joining the Ian Wilson stable. Although he hasn't got much speed out of the barrier he quickly goes around them to sit outside the leader and eventually beats his opposition into submission.

How far can he go? He stepped up to FFA company on Friday night and absolutely killed his rivals and Jimmy said after the race that he still had a fair bit left in the tank.

Would be interesting to hear everyones thoughts.

He made an outstanding horse in Rohan Home look second rate last time (albeit Rohan Home isn't yet at full fitness), running his last mile in 1.56.9 at the end of 2565m. It's ridiculous how the horse can go from reaching his mark in country class races to all of a sudden being the next big thing. Ian Wilson must be a freak trainer. I think the guy who owns him used to train him so it really shows the benefit of giving a nice horse to a professional trainer rather than part-timers trying to train it themselves.

In regards to how far the horse can go. I think it's clear his biggest asset is his strength. However once he gets up against the top class free-for-allers who have both speed and strength, he may just struggle a tad. When a top class horse is sitting in the one-one on his back he'd struggle to repel it's sprint. His lack of gate speed will be a massive negative against the top grade also, as it means he is always going to have to go around them and do it tough to be put into the race.

I notice he has never started from the stand, if he can ping away in stand starts this would negate his lack of gate speed meaning he could be competitive in a race like the Hunter Cup down the track.

He is still only a C9 M2, so for the meantime I'm sure he will just continue waltzing through the grades.

I was thinking along the same lines. Good horses can go sub 30 quarters and still sprint at the end. His last quarter on Friday night was only 29.5 so you would think a good horse could run him down.

You are correct, the guy that owns him did used to train and it makes a huge difference stepping up from a amatuer part time trainer to a professional trainer.

I think there was a stage where he was with another trainer early on in his career and we won 4 or 5 races in a row. The horse has always shown ability so it's not a big surprise that he is winning races, the big surprise comes when you look at how he is winning race.

He went from winning his M0 to smashing open class horses.

I love the way he races and look forward continuing watching him go through the grades.

Min Min Lights is racing again on Friday night at Harold Park. He is racing in the M1 race with the concession claim from Jimmy Douglass. He is up against the very smart up and coming 4yo Intoxicated who is first up after a month.

Min Min is drawn awkwardly on the inside of the second row but there are only 9 horses so it shouldn't take him long to work around them. At some stage in the race I think you'll see Intoxicated in front with Min Min Lights on its outside.

This is Min Min Lights' first real test.

Cant believe I jumped off the Min Min bandwagon tonight and backed Intoxicated. The Min Min train keeps on flying along.
Unsure on how fit Intoxicated was but Min Min Lights absolutely smashed him. I'm pretty sure they'll be heading to the Brisbane Winter Carnival with Min Min now.
