Btw I dunno if this helps anyone but you can use http://www.tableausoftware.com/ to create really good maps by plotting x/z coords on a grid. Not sure how you'd like the train lines up but it can't be that hard. Example:

Its the basic maps from within the game ... lots and lots of travelling, parking, and mapping.
When they are placed into picture frames or whatever they are called, they expand to the edges of the block to make a perfect continuous map.
