I dunno if this is the best place to ask this, but does anyone know how many mb/gb per hour of Internet downloads is used when playing on the server? Only coz I get about 25GB of Internet every month, but I checked recently and we've used up most of it already. Thanks guys :thumbsu:

About 15MB an hour at most.

Yes it is hardly anything. I host a server for my kids and their friends, our upload speed (optus cable) is only 512k yet we've had 4 from outside playing at the same time.

Well, I've been waiting 3 weeks to get whitelisted not sure why they bothered putting the banner ads trying to get people interested in this when they don't whitelist those who respond.

Ease up mate. Chief does a great job running the server, he probably just missed the message, or forgot to whitelist you. It may be worth sending him another pm, as he is usually pretty quick to organise this kind of thing.
 
I just got minecraft on PC after having it on Xbox for a while. Wouldn't mind joining the server. Should I PM Chief or just leave my username thingy here?

hello all i recently just bought minecraft and have been dying to get onto this server, so tonight i will join.
minecraft name the same as my user name on here, can't wait.
 
The game gives you the freedom to do what you want, buid, survive the nights, mine, farm, create potions, ride horses, trade with villagers etc. The game also gives you objectives such as killing the Ender dragon/wither, however not necessary to complete.

Bigfooty has a great community on them minecraft server. Plus you get neat creeper emblem for joining.

I bought the game when it first came out on PC, and it has evolved so much and continues to. Easily one of my favorite gaming experiences. Once you start playing, you can put some serious hours into it. Very addictive. :thumbsu:

You should be able to choose what hours you want to put in. It's 95% "sandbox" meaning you just come in and build what you want. KInd of like having a lego project going on in the spare room - or painting or whatever.

When you start it's more time-reliant. There are adversaries that will kill you and you need to work like a whirling dervish to get yourself into a safe environment - finding a home site, building a home, securing it, getting a food supply up and running, etc. You might die two dozen times doing this and if you just loaf around you'll never end up secure/safe.

But once you have that house (or cave lol) secured with some walls, doors, plenty of lighting, and a wheat or melon farm keeping your hunger covered, you can just sit in the server and alt-tab to pr0n or football ... like there's a difference.

Even during those first hours, nothing will happen to your efforts if you log off for six weeks and come back, you can just pick up where you left off. Unless of course if some idiot player finds your place and ransacks it. We work very hard to keep the level of "griefing" down and anyone caught is ejected from the game (I believe their Bigfooty account is also at risk when this happens), but sometimes troublemakers slip through the cracks.

The biggest issue is with totally new players in those first few hours desperately trying to set their own safe homes up, damaging existing builds for the sake of their lives. This usually comes in the form of fleecing an established food store/farm, or knocking holes through built walls etc because they don't have the tools or security to go the long way around. That, and some people don't get the concept of closing doors behind them.

Hope this gives you a bit of an intro. If you join, speak up if anyone's around and most people will actually either come visit you to help you establish yourself, or give you pointers/directions via the chat to help you get to safety and find some existing farms where you can build a food store from a renewable resource without damaging the existing farm itself.
