Even if he could there isn't a smart reason to put him out there this season now IMHO.

But I already believed it would have taken Darnold to be absolutely horrific for him to play this year. They always preached patience and think that was and is right still.

I think O'Connell is a far better coach than Rhule though. Happy to see him playing well, I will always have a soft spot for him. Great team man and leader who never complained despite being screwed by the Jets and Panthers and took the blame when it was really his fault. Hope he continues to play great for the rest of the year.

There is bound to be ups and downs during the season, and the occasional boneheaded play from Darnold. If the defence keeps playing well it should take a lot of pressure off Darnold. Let's see how he does in the cauldron that is Lambo.

I think Daniel Jones choosing the Vikings shows just how much QBs value the coaching staff and scheme at the Vikings. The signing also gives the Vikings flexibility going into 2025 with the option of replacing Darnold with Jones as the bridge QB for 2025. Who knows how ready McCarthy might be coming off his season ending injury and the option to slowly integrate him into the starting rotation will be a definite asset for 2025.
