He actually said that though?

I don't think many people are arguing that what he said was right.
It's more the media uproar, Lucy Cornes' outrage etc etc which we think is all way overblown.
If this happened in a workplace, the person would probably get a warning and a slap on the wrist.

I run a small business. Blue collar guys, 13 in a workshop.

If anybody said anything remotely like what Minson said in the first instant with Cornes and is alleged to have said in the second instant with Pearce, they would be sacked on the spot. I am not sure what workplace you are talking about.

Also, I played soccer at a semi professional level. I never heard, not once, a comment about anybody's mother, ever. If anybody had said anything about my mother on the field, I would have put their nose through their face.

We are in 2012. Surely, people know where the line is drawn. Just play football.

If the comments suggested are correct, its the biggest beat up of all time.

If I reacted the way Pearce did every time some told me the "****ed my Mum" The price of Kleenex shares would go through the roof, what a ****ing sook.

Minson should be suspended though, one week will do :thumbsu:

What was the one where McGrath asked an Indian player "Why are you so fat?" and he replied "Because every time I .... your mother, she throws me a biscuit."

That was Zimbabwe fast bowler Eddo Brandes - and he said "because every time i f*** your wife, she gives me a biscuit" - classic

Minson didn't have a go at a 2year old though. He made comments to an adult 5 years ago. The two comments are hardly one in the same.

So how does that make women sexist... as you claimed?

You seem quite confused on what you have said??? Check the post of yours I responded to...

Wow...

Wow. Flashbacks to last year for this WCE supporter.

Here's my take on things:

This is just stupid. All of it. S T U P I D. From all concerned (except maybe Danyle Pearce).

Stupid for Minson to think that sledging is something that's OK on a footy field (as if the whole "it's been going on for years" excuse is an excuse at all).
Stupid for sledging about a player's mother.
Stupid for sledging a Port Adelaide player about his mother, especially given his sledging history with that club.
Stupid for Lucy Cornes to solicit a donation to a charity relating to her son when the related Cornes sledge was 5 years ago. That was then Lucy, this is now.
Stupid for Lucy Cornes to have an open Facebook account where people can see her posts and people detailing their outrage of the sledge (not that they all know what was said) by sledging Minson back. So do these people think that sledging is OK, but not specific sledges?

As I said, stupid.

There was a bloke the other night who was inducted to the Australian Football Hall of Fame called Robert Harvey.

Does anyone think he ever sledged opponents? I think he was too busy playing football to worry about trying to put off opponents with words. He worried about getting the football and hurting the opposition with every kick and every handball. Now, I know there's people out there, both on BF and in the real world who'll stand up and say that this is all a part of the game and so forth. But you know what? It really isn't. The objective of the game is to get the ball and kick it through the two big sticks.

Obviously there are those who'll point out that my club has a history with sledging (Adam Selwood, McGinnity) and that I can't refute. I probably tried to make excuses for them once upon a time, but really there is no excuse. To me, sledging isn't offensive - it's just a waste of breath. It's a jaded effort to show machismo by players who are deficient in their skills and need to use words to impact upon their opponents.

And to me, that's just stupid.

You were all too busy feigning for free kicks. You would put their nose through their face? Are you that mentally weak, you have to resort to such extreme violence over a sledge? I know why you chose soccer now.

Not sure if I am getting trolled but Harvey always sledged, just ask Bartel & Scarlett.

This was posted back in 2004 in the aftermath of the Montgomery sledge on Ramanauskas, saying 'the chemo's gone to your head'.

'He' was Graham Cornes.

Obviously sledging's just hilarious when your family's not involved.
I rest my case...

FYI I bumped the thread - cheers for the reference

In Pearce's entire football career this is the first time he has been sledged. What he should do is harden up as Minson just said something along the lines of , "hey Pearce... your mumma". Which is beyond a joke because Pearce would never have heard this line playing football for his entire life. And if Pearce had listened closely Minson actually said "hey Pearce... your mumma... is an outstanding citizen"

I am assuming you believe A - women are equal to B - Men
But whilst your very protective of A when insults are cast you are insensitive to insults directed at B

It is quite plain that you believe A - Women require greater protection than B - Men.
Thus we must all conclude that, in your mind, A is weaker than B or more special than B or that B is more monstrous than A.

Either way, it seems you are perpetuating old stereo types. Chivalry has been rejected by contemporary thinkers as an archaic chauvanism. I am afraid logic finds you a condescending misogynist! Not a physically violent type - no! Merely the type that thinks they should leave the room with the kids when mens matters are discussed.

Oh my God. You're serious aren't you?

For the record:
I am not Chad Cornes
I am not Chad Cornes wife
I do not believe that women require greater protection than men - but they don't deserve less - which is what you are implying by having a go at me.
No logic could possibly find me a condescending misogynist and I am offended by the very accusation
I do believe that calling a woman a whore and a c*nt is unacceptable, particularly on a message board from behind the anonymity of a made up handle
I will not stand silently by while this is done.

This has become a classic case of shoot the messenger. Why is it that everyone here is entitled to sprout their opinion, but Lucy Cornes is not? Why is it, do you think, that her opinion has been met with such bile and hatred in terms so disgusting as to beggar belief?

Grow up.

Listen dollface Mrs Lucy Cornes has dealt it out as well. Women want to be treated equal yet cry foul when they cop it back.

Who are the real sexists.
WTF?

If anyone got stuck into a family member regarding a 2 year old in my family who has cancer... I doubt I'd just be treating it with a tweat... Does that make me sexist?

Wow...

You never actually answered my tongue in cheek comment. You brought up a 2year old (I assumed you were talking about the last sledging incident) I responded to that.

Are you ok?

Lucy Cornes brought up old news and then implied that Minson doesn't deserve to live.
She has opened up a can of worms needlessly.

Sure she doesn't deserve to be called a c*nt. I also don't think she was called a whore in the ****s every guy she sees sense. Attention whore means something completely different.

Will Minson went to the same school as Hamish McLachlan. Their parents spent hundreds of thousands of dollars educating their kids, but they both turned out ****wits.

You obviously haven't watching football closely to make a comment about players staging for free kicks. The AFL introduced a simulation rule. You should acquaint yourself with it.

this whole situation has shown why women have absolutely no place on or off a footy field

wtf did this ever have to do with lucy cornes

Yes all women should be rounded up and shot, damn women breathing oxygen interferin' with mens business...

way to take my comment out of context. at which point did i say that??

women are largely irrational creatures, this is the proof..

lucy cornes had absolutely no business sticking her nose in this, she has inflamed the situation massively and will probably come out of this with her own TV show..

it's lara bingle'esque

Anglo/Australian players did not feign for free kicks back then. We considered it a South American/European thing. :) Things have changed nowadays, sadly !

Not mentally weak, but I have a moral code which involves respecting people and their families whether I was playing sport or not.

Um take a look at Lucy's Facebook page, there are equally filthy words by her supporters, some even bordering on death threats.

I don't condone them either. What Minson said, whichever version you take, is unacceptable, what a lot of posters in this thread have said is unacceptable (and it seems some of the more disgusting posts have been removed) and I won't bother to check out the Facebook page, I'll take your word for it, is unacceptable.

This whole issue has served to bring the tone and the average IQ of the footy community to new depths.

I'm not suprised that there are little boys here who think this is fair game.

Think what is fair game? Keep in mind this is a thread about Will Minson and a comment he made to another player as a sledge during a football match.
