Still not sure what Bulldog fans want Pearce to do? He didn't make the complaint.

What did make the MRP decide to investigate then? If an umpire had heard the comment and it was as Pearce suggested, then Minson would have been brought before the tribunal and he would have been given a hell of a lot longer than the 1 week the club gave him. The other alternative is that Minson reported himself.

This.

Port Adelaide of old would have stored it and smashed the guy off the park the next time they played.

Which is exactly how it should of gone down. Imagine if every sportsman in the country carried on like this when insulted? An insults an insult, regardless of the level of professionalism, hope poor old Pearcey never plays country or ametuer footy he'd spend the whole game sitting down crying!!

I'm glad Minson was made to pay for his actions. Dermott Brereton has admitted he was racist on field and he was never reprimanded while he was a player (explains why Michael Long went nuts that day and belted him). If they can keep getting away with it and the other player cannot respond without violence, it's not good for the game.

End of the day every AFL player now knows that a bit of verbal will upset Danyle Pearce. If they did not already.

And who knows, it could be a long term issue. He does get tagged a bit and it affects him. It may not be physical aspect of the tag but the mental games taggers play that can take him out of the game.

Kane Cornes himself is a great sledger, as was Josh Carr.

The AFL wanting to take "sledging" out of the game is ridiculous. It is part and parcel of most sports. A strong willed person will know that when they are being sledged they are the better player. Some even feed off it. But a weak willed person will fall apart.

The future of this game is in trouble.

Racism is different and certainly shouldnt be tolerated, but if hes gonna cry about a Mum insult what next, will a player complain when insulted about their abilities being sub-standard? Do you have to go around patting opponents on the back and smiling and never hurting anyones feelings? Maybe we should stop keeping scores like in under 10's so everybody wins?

Yep. Seems like Will has become the first player suspended as a result of the Cornes family using social media, talkback radio and the gutter press to settle a five-year old agenda. I understand that the Cornes family are the opinionmakers of Adelaide but no mention of cracks about Will's dead father (Chad), "witty" comments about cancer treatment (Graham) or thieving oxygen (Lucy, in amongst her efforts to find out what Oscar's girlfriend was wearing on this morning's Sesame Street).

Makes you feel sorry for your traditional Port supporters until you remember, oh yeah, "footy's changed" as of 3/4 time last Sunday.

i think this type of banter has been happening for years but back then it was dealt with a hidden tap to the the gut or a massive hip and shoulder later in the game.

however since retaliation or being brutal has been wiped out of the game, players now have no choice but create a fuss to retaliate.

now im not saying minsons comments were appropriate to pearce but i do think a lot worse has been said on the field over the decades. and the media and social media dont help either.

that being said, a bit of lip is fine, but imho, anything family related is extreme. and this shows that whoever is saying it has serious issues of their own.

I'm not sure Minson has issues. He was just trying to say something extreme to put Pearce off his game. I bet at the time he thought he'd be fine because it's all been said before (probably). I think having the info reported in the media embarrassed Minson more than the comments offended Pearce, although at the time he was obviously pissed off.

Meh heres the same quote with a different leading line. The AFL website has the AFL starting the investigation

Pearce's father, Joffre, yesterday declared he was proud the Power onballer had taken a stand against family sledging.
"Someone has insulted his family and he's standing his ground - I'm very proud of him," Mr Pearce said. "Something has got to be done about it, otherwise this will continue."

After all the AFL said they launched the investigation
AFL media relations manager Patrick Keane said that while the Power had not made an official complaint, the issue had been brought to the attention of the Match Review Panel, with its finding to be released on Monday afternoon.

Still not sure what Bulldog fans want Pearce to do? He didn't make the complaint. Do you want him to have a chat with Minson so Minson can tear up again about how remorseful he is?

I think that it is pretty clear that Pearce complained, and I'm not sure how these articles explicitly contradict that. In the first, Pearce is described as having "taken a stand." In the second, all it states is that Pearce's club did not initiate a formal process. However, somebody did bring it to the attention of the AFL. In a nice use of the passive voice, the 'who' was not specified. It is the grammar that one uses when one does not want to disclose the agent of an action. Could the agent have been Pearce? On the balance of probabilities? What do you think?

However, to be less speculative, here is something from Pearce's coach:

Port Adelaide coach Matthew Primus has praised the courage of Danyle Pearce for making a complaint against Will Minson for an alleged slur about Pearce's mother. The AFL said on Monday it was investigating the Port playmaker's claim that Western Bulldogs ruckman Minson made the comment during Sunday's round-12 game at Etihad Stadium.

I am not debating whether Pearce should or should not have complained. I am discussing whether he did or did not.

Yeah! And if we allow gay marriage, what's next? Will we be able to marry ANIMALS?! WHEN WILL IT END?!

So both Will and Picken are lying, as you think Pearce is not that thin skinned to have got upset at what's been said in the media?
Do you honestly believe the Bulldogs would have suspended Will Minson for a simple your mumma comment? Not the AFL, the Bulldogs. Pearce may be on the end of some hard tags but only a very simple person could believe a run of the mill your mumma comment would have the power to go this far.

I have no doubt the PR machine has gone into overdrive and the true nature of the comments sanitised.

A pretty good source has told me the "alleged comment" and if he really did say that, he should be happy with a one week club imposed ban.

Absolutely disgusting – and there is no place for comments like that in society.

what was said?

A bit of verbal about his mum and sexual acts (whatever it may have been) may upset him. It will also cost the player a suspension and turn his club into a media circus for a couple of days. But, yeah...definitely seems worthwhile.

I am not debating whether Pearce should or should not have complained. I am discussing whether he did or did not.

To your first paragraph- He is taking a stand, just like Kane Cornes did 5 years ago, Kane didn't accept his apology then, Pearce hasn't now. Port Adelaide FC said they accepted it and will move on.

To your second- The AFL said that Pearce or Port Adelaide did not make an official complaint in the following link

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/138830/default.aspx

If you want to think Port Adelaide made the complaint you can - I assumed it was the umpire seeing as teh AFL said it wasn't Port Adelaide. If you want to think some shadowy agent made the complaint that is your choice.

Still don't know what people think Pearce did wrong - Minson sledges him, wrestles with Minson, doesn't make a report and doesn't accept his apology. Aparrently a cry baby? Then Minson has a press conference and can't answer a question about his reputation because he is choking up - apparently Minson thinks he did something wrong enough to begin crying during an interview.

All this deflection away from what minson has done is just odd
