Lucy Cornes:

"I'm disappointed that an incident we chose to put behind us in 2008 has resurfaced," she told The Advertiser yesterday.

Um..... Hasn't it only resurfaced because she brought it up?

I missed that! Revisionism at its best there!

Love this quote.

Absolutely hate this train of thought. There are always going to be problems, some more serious than others, but we must address all of them, not just the most severe. If one man was murdered, and another was stabbed but survived, would you say that the stabber should go unpunished, simply because someone else has been murdered? I shudder to think if the answer were yes.
is it ok to sledge a 'ranga'?

Minson may be as dumb as dogshit but seriously, someone being upset about a mother taunt, really? How soft has this game gone?

Minson is as dumb as dogsh-t but again the PC lobby weighs in, the AFL playing to its target population soccer mums and doctor's wives.

And why oh why does it not surprise me that a Cornes has to be involved again.

Good on her for speaking out. That sort of sledge given the circumstances is unforgiveable. Minson is an embarassment and a lowlife piece of trash and you Bulldogs flogs defending him and attacking Cornes' wife are just as low. Charlie Sutton would be embarassed to be associated with you.

Please. Tell me more about the "circumstances" that make what Minson said unforgivable and why Charlie Sutton (who epitomised mental toughness) would be embarrassed?

As with the previous 20 or so comments I was talking about the Cornes incident.
What relevance does this have with saying to Danyle Pearce "I ****ed your mum"?
Nothing at all

Just a few things that are going over people's heads:

Lucy Cornes saying it resurfacing is because Will Minson supposedly apologised in 2008 about going over the top with his on field sledging, and this new incident undermines that apology. That seems to be the gist of why she made the comments she did. Not sure why anyone actually cares what she's saying - most of you lot seem more outraged by her comments than she is by Minson's.

Anyone saying:

I don't believe that to be the case. There's nothing to suggest this course would have deviated given Port Adelaide made an official complaint to the AFL. Everything else is personal positioning in regards to Lucy Cornes and what people consider acceptable on field conduct.

Is wrong.

"AFL media relations manager Patrick Keane said that while the Power had not made an official complaint, the issue had been brought to the attention of the Match Review Panel, with its finding to be released on Monday afternoon."

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/138830/default.aspx

So, let's go over the facts shall we:

- Will Minson made over-the-top comments about Danyle Pearce's mother, who was obviously affected by them.
- An umpire submitted an incident referral form about the sledging to the AFL.
- Port Adelaide did not make an official complaint.
- Minson has once again gone too far with his sledging and this has opened old wounds for Lucy Cornes, who publicly lashed out.
- Posters on BigFooty come on to say that Pearce is soft, the Port Adelaide Football Club is soft and Lucy Cornes shouldn't have an opinion on anything (unless she's an anonymous poster on an Internet message board).

My mistake. I must have misheard on AFL 360 when they were talking about Pearce/Port Adelaide informing an AFL Official/Umpire post match. I think it was Primus who was talking about the incident.

[quote="yebiga, post: 24586150, member: 66782

And our concern is what one footballer said about another footballer's mother? What some poster said about another footballer's wife? This is what makes us indignant? I wonder could there be an actual connection between our deteriorating mental health and this epidemic of moralising? Aren't the stupid things we say a form of stress release and little more. Is this a hanging offence? What kind of weak children are we creating: who will cry woof at any perceived slight.[/quote]

So if we all went around telling people that we want to **** their mothers, mental health issues would decrease?

Interesting theory.

This is a footy board. The incident happened on a footy field and is pretty big news. People will have opinions on it.

*sigh*

The dogs ban him for "insulting language". I can't wait until I get called an idiot, I'm off to the media about it straight away. How dare somebody insult me!

PC pederi ffs.

What did he say about the Kid? That the father should be at home looking after him. And its ok for Cornes to say something about Will's dead father. You have no idea.

Neither side has ever come out and said what it was exactly. Whatever he said, it was repeatedly said by Minson and along the lines of "why are you playing when your kid is dying". His wife had just given birth to their second son, their first son has his heart on the wrong side and could need emergency surgery.

Struggling to see how people are defending Minson as a person. Why is there all this deflection; he's a classless idiot.

But according to the Cornes family, sledging about cancer and chemotherapy aren't just kosher, they're "quite funny"...

****ing hypocrites.

Pretty sure he said "Your mother is a pleasant lady"

Pearce however doesn't share his views and then goes agro.
If that is all he said this is the biggest load of rubbish I have ever heard.

If only Mison replaced mother with Father then he would be fine because the AFL are a sexist organisation who have knee-jerked so far that they now put women on a pedestal and are not consistent with the laws regarding men and women.

I think you mean Graham Cornes is a hypocrite as he made that comment I think? Not Kane Cornes.

I don't really care about Graham or Chad Cornes, dont care about Lucy either on a footy thread though I can understand why Lucy would be pissed at Will Minson - I think she should have better privacy settings on her social media.

Still I don't see the need for deflection about Will Minsons comments. Bringing others down doesn't make him a beacon of goodblokeness

I don't give a shit about who said what to whom, but the one thing I will take away from this 'saga', (along with a host of other examples) is that people are yet to realise the magnitude of twitter, facebook and social media.

This is a non story that we should not have even heard about, yet because of the agency of twitter and instant publication, we suddenly hear about all kinds of irrelevant stories in the media.

I hope that generations to come will look back at the early days of facebook and twitter with shock and dismay in the trivial way we have used the medium. Grandchildren will ask "Grandpa, why was your facebook account public? Didn't you understand about internet security?" - or "Grandma, why did you publish all those drunken tweets about your inane ideas and then have a public internet spat with someone you didn't like?"

In theory, social media should be an amazing outlet for information sharing away from traditional forms of mass media - However, it always makes me think of a Churchill quote, albeit with some slight modifications:

"The best argument against democracy (Twitter/Facebook/Social Media) is a five minute conversation (Browse/Read) with the average voter (Twit/Blog)."

You do realise you arsehat that it was a Western Bulldogs favourite in Brett Montgomery that had a go at Rama, and not Kane or Lucy Cornes dont you? Of course you did
