McGinnity got a week for his comment to Pettard last year. It involved the R word and his mum and the Eagles gave him the suspension. I remember Pettard telling the umpire, but I don't remember if the ump said he heard it himself. I'm not saying Will used that word though, we can only go off what has been reported.
I think if he did use that word, it would have come out by now. Everybody knew exactly what McGinnity had said by the next day.
Exactly. There were multiple Port players around, multiple Dogs players, as well as an umpire. At the very least, the neutral party would have heard it, and it would have definitely been reported by now, and the AFL would have acknowledged that fact. Since it hasn't, it's safe to say it wasn't said, imo.

Was an umpire standing right next to him when he said it, in 08? If not, then it's a completely different scenario.
Because on Sunday, and asOK you have pointed out several times, the umpire is right there. It wouldn't have been let go by the AFL, and you can guarantee that.

The bulldogs veiw this incident as a one week ban, they viewed the kane sledge as no ban. As I have pointed out several times. Minson admitted he did the wrong thing both times.

Last time he did not tear up at his press conference this time he did.

Why do you need to believe that Minson did not say he r*ped her up the bum, when everything from the Bulldogs points to it being worse than telling a father his kid is dying?

It has been reported as forced sex in The Age and The West and 5AA as far as i have seen

There is a lot to still come out of this. Not sure why Will is not fully disclosing the fully the lead up to his exchange with Pearce.

Minson - When is the last time you had a kick?
Pearce - I had one with your Sister last night, what have you ever done?
Minson - I was with your mother...

Why the hell didn't News go with it from the start? They reported Minsons version of events?

Surely if that's true, one of Minson's team mates would have come to his defence. Pearce would be just as culpable as he is.

Picken backs his story 100% but he's just looking out for his mates apparently.

Kane didn't take the matter any further than the field. He hates Minson, understandably, but he just put it behind him. Minson was the one who actually reported that incident himself to our club, straight after the game. There was no official investigation of anything, so there was no suspension.

This is different. An umpire heard it, lodged the complaint, and Pearce ran with it as well. The media then piled on, fuelled by Lucy Cornes' tweet, Pearce's dad, Graham Cornes, and anyone else who wanted to have a say in the matter. The club had no choice but to suspend Will.

ohhh just a $2000 dollar fine. Good club Port Adelaide

Essendon's Adam Ramanauskas was sledged about his fight with cancer by Port Adelaide's Brett Montgomery during a round one game.
Montgomery mocked Ramanauskas, who underwent surgery and two bouts of treatment last year to remove a tumour from his shoulder and neck area.
The AFL last month warned players they could be penalised for sledging opponents, in the wake of a torrent of sexual assault cases which have tarnished the game.
But the AFL did not level a penalty on Montgomery, satisfied that the All Australian backman was fined $2,000 by his club and his public apology.

I wonder if Will makes the decision to volunteer his time in a soup kitchen because of this.
I think you'll find Minson will be donating a lot more time to the community as he tries to earn back their respect and that of all AFL supporters.

That's the sort of bloke Minson is normally. He's sensible and can take his medicine.

Unlike Akermanis who sits in the shadows waiting for somebody to fall down and then jumps out and starts kicking them in the guts when their on the ground. Such a bitter little man.

Wrong use of cause and effect...the game was very different even four years ago and different standards apply in 2012 than in 2008. That's like saying someone who made a racist comment in 2012 obviously made a worse one than someone in 1982 because the footballer in 2012 got suspended and the one in 1982 did not.

I can take your point but it is nothing like comparing 2012 to 1982. If you said compare a racist comment in 2008 to 2012 then I can agree with you. I wouldn't even compare it to a penalty for racism to start with

I dare say he hasn't lost that much respect from supporters that arn't from Port Adelaide. It's hard to lose respect over "speculation" and until the public knows exactly what was said its hard to pass judgement on anyone. For all we know it could of been the worse thing ever, or a non issue blown completely out of proportion.

To be fair, I didn't want to compare it to racism, but it's hard to think of other incidents that used to happen on the field that have since become suspendable...racism is one. In 2008, I don't think anyone had been suspended for a sledge, or even reported. It's only in the past couple of years, with the new stance on respect for women, that this has become an issue. That's why we see issues like Selwood/Headland and McGinnity/Pettard making news. Minson didn't get suspended in 2008 because no one got suspended for sledging back then, not because the sledge against Cornes was softer than the one against Pearce. It's very possible (in my opinion, likely) that this sledge wasn't as bad as the Cornes one but the stance on sledging women is why he got suspended. Hell, we know what McGinnity said, I still consider the Cornes one worse and we know that McGinnity got suspended and Minson didn't. Changing times.

Thanks for explaining, I get what you meant now. Good post too. I don't know of the McGinnity/Pettard incident myself but will have a look at it to see if it's comparable.

I think this issue is so over the top it is ridiculous. Footy is a man's game for gods sake. If some one cant take some sledging then they are just soft. Sledging is as old as sport itself and if you react then you have simply been sucked in which is exactly what the sledger wants- a reaction. All players have been sledged at one time or another yet do they run to mummy every time? No they just ignore it and move on. Imagine if a high profile player like a Judd or Ablett jumped up and down every time they were sledged- they wouldn't be able to play. The only thing that should be taboo in sledging is racial, that's it. Grow a heart and move on.

Why only racial? It was fine 30 years ago, why is it the only thing that should be taboo today?

I have a general level of respect for everyone who plays in the AFL. They've achieved a level of notoriety 99.9% of people in Australia will never achieve. Given that position, Will Minson has been a below average ruck and player for the large majority of his career. Compared against other players, would his level of respect be high to begin with?

Just like being the "CEO" of her online shop, I'm not sure what qualifications Lucy has in being an MC. What a terrible performance.
Although... I think she was a perfect fit to marry into the Cornes clan. They didn't even have to dumb her down, she has already proven she is dumb enough.

Watch the footage of Minson mouthing off, they are wrestling, pearce jumper punches minson, who then looks over to the umpire (crying if you will) pointing at his head. The umpire is right there the entire time.

I don't have time to go through the footage of the quarter so feel free to hunt down more. If you watch the entire interview you can also listen for when minson chokes up and can't respond over how it affect his reputation - not sure if its in this link.

what part of Pearce complained to the coach after the game and wanted to take the incident further dont you understand?

The part where you post the quote you are referring to? The part where you read all the posts around the one you quoted so I don't have to repeat myself. The part where this has any relevance aside from deflection?

This is what I quoted in the post above the one you quoted. Port did not make a complaint.

"AFL media relations manager Patrick Keane said that while the Power had not made an official complaint, the issue had been brought to the attention of the Match Review Panel, with its finding to be released on Monday afternoon."
