Now when JMT didn't mention Weller in his watch that mean he is doing very well. :)

**** that's funny. Sorry I'm meant to be working less not more these days . Had a busy day at work and very bad aircon. :straining::straining::straining:
Should have toughed it out and joined us Old Dudes at training that would have cost you the morning then you could have had a cruisy afternoon. We actually clapped the boys in at the end of today's training for the effort they put in under tough conditions with an easterly blowing.

I was there Friday. I'm shy. :) I was half retired last year but a new world of fun and enjoyment has opened up for me now so it's back to the world of working. ( it's a long but - happy ending - story ).

All viable options but just like Dhurrkay our Suban is cut from a different cloth. Much to the surprise of not just the opposition player but to all watchers of AFL Suban decided to try and use his head as a battering ram. He bent over and lined his head with the sternum of the opposition player and charged with all his might.

True story.
IIRC it was Norf.

Anyone else think that Sonny doesn't get selected for the leadership team because the other players don't like him ducking? That's the only thing I can think of that's stopping him.

Totally guessing but we've been very stable with the leadership group in recent times and most of them are senior / older / experienced players so Macca out and Johnno back in seems to fit the bill when you also consider it's like for like in the positions they play. Having said that Son son had my vote.

So what are people's thoughts on how we will run out games that we are confortably controlling/winning?

Last year our in our game against Eagles in Round 3 we clearly went into cruise mode and switched players around the ground to rest them up and give others some more time on ball. This happened a few times in the first half of the season and it let the opposition get a few goals back closing the scoreline.

In our second game against North we got a comfortable-ish lead in the first quarter and came back out after the first quarter looking like a different team. As North got closer and closer we weren't able to switch back on and regain control. And North weren't even playing particularly well.

I think we need to learn how to destroy the easy teams, learn how to kick 20+ goal games. Don't ease up or rest in the last quarter, but go in for the kill and start to build up some fear. By the end of last year every team in the comp thought they could beat us, we need to beat these teams mentally before they take the field.

If our old timers need a break then give the a full game off and tell them to go flat stick in the games they do play.

Thoughts?

If Sonny ducks in a grand final to get the free to win it, there will be no complaints. As previously said leadership should not be a popularity contest, best leaders should get the job.

Could not agree more. If we were "managing" players last year by switching to cruise control it backfired badly and hopefully Ross and the team have learnt from that.

We had the team last year to bury most teams and average 100 points + per game. I hope this year we have the game plan to match.

Re: Suban KO'ing himself - part of me thinks he was attempting a more rugby style tackle where you lead and charge with your shoulder and he just mistimed or misjudged it. Go in hard and low - but not with your head

Edit: pics for reference. From the bbc laws of tackling section on union

When Son Son starts charging through the midfield which has been an idea that has been openly flirted with happening the past two years, but hasn't quite gotten off the ground for a variety of reasons(apart from the being our primary goal kicker) is probably when the leadership calls will strengthen imo.

So the paper today says we're holding a closed session intra-club practice match today.

I normally attend these 'Purple V White' games - great chance to see the new recruits etc. etc.

Anyone got any plausible suggestions on why it might be closed? Presumably we're trying out a few different things, but really, how secret can 'Fyfe Forward' be? In any case, if some top secret clearance set-play helps us to the flag I'm not complaining!

edit: I should have read the pre-season training thread before writing this.... Good work to those that were there.:thumbsu:
