Hey can you guys tell me much about Balic? Is he likely to play 100 games or will he be depth at best? What are his strengths/weaknesses?
A bargain at what you got him for , He was starting to get regular game time got injured then all this homesick stuff raised it's head , I would be surprised if he doesn't play at least a 100 , Strengths , Strong at the contest . Weakness kicking could be better

Eh, do we even need to send the majority of our team or can we just send like 10 depth players?
I assume the AFL will have a list of players each team will have to select one or two from to ensure the integrity of the competition isn't compromised

How is it possible after so much delisting we still have the most 30 plus players in the comp
Because most of the 30+ guys were good players in their pomp. We cut the role players first and it makes sense since we needed to keep somebody for standard setting and on field direction. That and D Pearce signed for 2 years RIGHT before we fell off the cliff. Smart.

Unfortunately most of them are shadows of their former selves. Sandi and Mundy still go ok.

Edit: Also, it will probably be down to 1 or 2 next season.

I’ve just been watching the “close finishes from 2017” on Foxtel and so far I have watched our close loss against Geelong at Simmonds Stadium and our 15 point loss against Essendon in round 23.

I dare say that Collins’ game on Begley was what cost him his AFL career.

I dont know Reems if anything that big pie floater shot on goal pass to crozier in the pocket showed he was actually a cut above everyone else but no one else could see it...

The amount of times that he was caught out of position, pushed off the ball by Begley or went to ground was unbelievable. Then Ross gave him a serve on the bench when we was dragged. I knew this wasn't going to end well, however his career with Peel Thunder was outstanding.

On a better note, Tabs finally started to show something in that game, but the highlight for me though was Jon Griffin stealing the ball in that stoppage and running into an open goal whilst the Essendon players all stood around looking at each other.

What is rather alarming is that Sam's form at AFL level was better in his first year than his second. We seem to have developed him backwards.

I don't think he was better in 2016, I think we were just a bit more forgiving. He was constantly beaten, played a couple decent game but it was clear to me at that point he wasn't going to be a long term palyer

Not really his deficiencies were evident right from the get go , Some were looking for hope , I for one never jumped on the Sam train

Was in a similar boat as Silvagni as an undersized battler that was good enough when shit hit the fan, but not someone you felt safe with as a starting KPD.

Could have been culled after a few others, but just happened to play a position where we had somewhat decent depth, so his time was now. Certainly offered us more as a long term backup than others we chose to retain.

Agree with this, although I think the bolded piece is partly due to the legacy of past contracting mistakes e.g. DP should never have been extended for as long as he was. Sutcliffe and Sheridan have also been gifted extra years.

I suspect with some of the Freo generated media that Spurr is also not likely to be best 22 in 2018 (which had been worrying me). He’s another who has had players go past him, but I’m speculating that as a leader he’s choosing to embrace the hard conversations and pitch in to help develop others and lead Peel. Kudos to him and the coaching staff if this is true.

I personally suspect his calf injury last season wasn't actually a calf injury, but a low key way to drop him for being a potato, while both saved face.

But yeah, surely he'd see the writing on the wall.

I just hope he doesn't take minutes away from the younger crew. Show those leadership skills down at Peel.

I think it was up at the GABBA v Brisbane but there was a point in that game where he just looked flat out unfit running out in the open trying to chase someone or something, that's when I thought he was in serious trouble as an AFL footballer.

And Taberner is the best contested mark in the comp.

It's not AFL Dream Team, wardy

No it's not. But you've provided zero evidence for your assertion that MJ has poor disposal which goes against everything that's been said about him for his entire career.

MJ's disposal and vision coming out of the backline has always been his biggest strength. It's literally what makes him special.

It's only been less noticeable the last season or 2 because he's been asked to play more as a key defender which means he gets ball in hand less often than previously.

But as the stats show, he's still one of the best kicks in the AFL. You literally couldn't be more wrong.
