Here's mine for today:

Perth finished with 11 wins in the 1910 WAFL season for 4th spot, finishing ahead of South Fremantle on 10 in 5th. As far as I can see, looking through scores and a bit of cross referencing, this all adds up. However, South played finals, Perth didn't. Nothing I can find sheds any light on this, to the point where Australian Footy writes about 1000 words on Perth's early 1900's history and simply says they missed the finals in 1910...

Anyone know the story here...?

Apparently Perth lost a match on protest earlier in the season:

Well after the season was over, the original decision was overturned by the ANFC.
Unfortunately of course, far too late to allow Perth to play in the finals.

Thanks mate! That does raise another issue though:

Perth 17-11-6 798-611 130.61 44 (743-611 = a % of 121.6)
South Fremantle 17-10-7 781-651 119.97 40

The score of the Perth v North Freo match in question was 55-39, so even if Perth's score was annulled they still have a percentage of 121, which is better than South Freo's...

Any other thoughts as to why SF got in? Was Perth penalised an actual finals appearance by way of punishment (like Essendon a few years back)...?

The final ladder is here: http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/38362081

Sth Fremantle is on 11 wins - including one awarded after a protest.
Perth is on 10 wins and 7 losses - including one lost on protest.

Fascinating stuff, thanks guys. Another question - do these protested wins count as wins in all time head to head WL counts, or do we still preserve the actual results of the games involvd (e.g. Perth and EF lost the match points, but their wins over NF and SF still count when counting head to head totals)...? More accurately, does the WAFL make these distinctions, in opposition to the newspaper who make changes to the WL totals...?

Seems to me that if they alter the WL column as well as the match points, you're making the match points column irrelevant..Perth and EF still won on the scoreboard...
