What are the missing pieces for geelong to win a premiership i think that all we need is a really fast line breaking midfielder, a mobile fast key defender and a mobile skilled ruckman and of course the desire and luck

The fast breaking midfielder is about right. Our guys are good up and under players, but do lack that real burst of leg speed.
The one thing I've noticed about our youngsters is that Selwood does have a great gift of running onto a tap, looking like he has a good amount of pace, which isn't really the case.
I think with Wojak moving up to the wing out of the HBF is a good move for us, this is a start to get a good experienced semi-defender with line breaking ability into the centre region. Now we have to find someone for the other side.
Byrnes isn't there, neither really is tenace. Wouldn't it be great to have Moloney back as the other wingman ?? So a line breaking nugget with good pace and a damaging kick on one side and a line breaking machine with a huge amount of pace on the other.
Well that dream ends there as Moloney isn't with us anymore. So I'd say we have to look at that in the future, but Djerkurra could fit that mold once he bulks up a little bit.
The rucks are ok, King is injured as usual, which is disappointing. Once he is gone, get a great backup journeyman for Ottens quick smart. For us to go anywhere Otto needs to stay in the ruck, IMO.
Don't know about backs, we seem to have them going well, then play poorly, i.e. last year. With Jimmy in the middle, going back into the HB line at times really helps us out, plus the role that Egan has picked up is awesome.
Who may help in the backline ?? I'd say Donahue (our next Father/Son IMO). He is showing the goods in the Falcons, and could be another link in the puzzle.
That would nearly make us a full team of F/S's. There must be something in the milk down there.

I would not go that far mate... he is good but not at Kerr's level..... yet
For Geelong to win a flag we dont need to poach STARS from rivals, we need solid improvement across the board in several players. In terms of Skills and Fitness. Once we get this which I it looks like we almost have (Egan, Prissa, Nablett, Hawk, DJ, Selwood, Ottens) have all shown improvment or addition in the case of the recruits.
We have the LIST to win a flag just need to add a bit of
EXPERIANCE (which we have)
LEADERSHIP (i sense a huge improvement)
COMPOSURE UNDER THE PUMP (we fail miserably)

I think we have the talent already. Just need some luck with form and injuries, need to peak at the right time of the year (ie the period running into and including theFinals), and mostly the side needs self belief that it can do it.

agreed i think we can do it with this team. If we are talking about a DOMINATE side though i think we are really missing a clearance specialist. I would almost take Mitchell over any midfielder, he gets possessions and so so so many clearances.
We don't need anyone.
We went close in '04 - all we were missing then was a really good key forward, some run in the middle of the ground and some experience (its amazing to see how young we were then).
The key forward problem has been more than dealt with through Hawkins, N Ablett, Ottens and the move of Mooney to the forward line.
We have been busily drafting quality running players since 2004 - Prismall, Gamble, Varcoe, Davenport, Djerrkura, Hogan, Bedford. Tenace and Byrnes were both in their first year in '04 and have developed since then. Wojcinski is now playing better running footy than he ever has before. Chappy and G Ablett now play much more in the middle and provide a lot of run.
The core of the side in '04 - Ling, Chappy, G Ablett, Corey, Enright, Scarlett, Mooney, Harley, Bartel, et al - were mostly kids, but three years later they're all still there and are now mature, better players. Who have we lost? Kingsley and Benny - more than replaced. Ricco - great player, but we have him covered. Sando - good player, but again not a hole we can't cover. A handful of other blokes who wouldn't be in our best 22 this year (Koula, Thurley, etc). The main thing we lost from all them is experience, which is hard to replace, but with another three years in the whole list we're in a much better position in that regard now anyway.
I think we have all the other bits people have mentioned covered:
Mobile fast key defender - Scarlett / S Hunt
Mobile ruckman - Blake / West
Fast breaking midfielder - Woja / Djerrkura / Tenace (I still have faith) and other kids coming up
Clearance guru - Selwood
We have the players. We now have the mature bodies and the experience right across the list that we didn't have in 2004. All we need is probably another year to get used to our new playing style (and it HAS changed), for the newer players to get up to speed and get some finals experience, and to get some real confidence and belief.

I'd say this is where we have really struggled, and we have not been able to cover. He was a vital part of our back 6, being able to take medium forwards, e.g Brad Johnson and Mark Williams, and i think we have really struggled since he has left covering those types of players.
