Mitch Clark Return..

I don't get why, if he's ready to play again, he doesn't go to play for the team that he's on the list of, the one that's been very good to him.
Apparently Mitch needs to play in a team thats successful. If that doesn't tell you everything you need to know . .

If you heard Young on 6PR tonight he came across as a total tool. Firstly he said they Clarke was the deal of the lifetime for Freo back a few years ago..how many games did he end up playing....was it 15? You would have thought he was Gary Ablett Jnr according to Young. Secondly if Young was so concerned about his players welfare why is he parading his name around at the moment....any comeback should be very low key and through the rookie list or playing AFL/VFL and thus the pressure would be far less....instead he is parading him around attracting all the attention and making him a spotlight in the media.
Deal of a lifetime? Lol ok, a first rounder for a gun player isn't a deal of a lifetime, it's a fair trade.
Concerned about his health? Maybe do your job and stop talking about him in the media, you're only drawing more attention to him. Young you're a dickhead.

I think Mitch is going to get an idea pretty quickly if he is really ready to go back to the rough and tumble of the AFL. What a circus this is turning into.

To all you guys saying you're glad you didn't get Mitch Clarke, you do realise he's the difference between Fremantle winning a premiership and not winning one right? He's a gun and the missing piece in the Freo jigsaw.

Ross knows this, hence his bitterness in the presser.

Well, impossible to say. Surely fit and firing he could have ben the difference lasty year, but he actually only played rd1-4 which wouldn't have helped much...

He would have been watching like everyone else. As good as his glimpses have shown, he is made of glass.

Yeah fair points, we'll never know I guess.

I watch all Ross' pressers and get the feeling he's getting increasingly frustrated, he seems to snap at journalists much more frequently nowadays. Think he realises if they don't win the flag this year then it may not happen at all. Players like Pavlich, Sandilands and McPharlin don't grow on trees. Taberner is going to be a beauty but he's still a fair way off yet

We would love Mitch Clark in our team. Good KPF with strong hands, the type of player that should be number 1 on our priority list. Time to forget past grudges, which were petty to begin with, and do what is best by the club.

Disappointed with Ross's comments over this, would have thought he would have the same mindset. Whilst I agree Young sounded like a petulant child on 6pr, clearly Perth/Freo is Clark's favoured destination. Forget the rubbish, just get it done FFC.

Yeah he's a bit stressed but he hasn't put a fist through a wall yet or abused little school kids playing a footy match.
We didn't ask to be drawn in the Mitch Clarke return thing. He is a Melbourne player but somehow all the focus is on us and how we have reacted

Fair comment but we took a chance on Gumby and it didn't work out and we have have possibly wasted a high draft pick with Simpson . Now a guy who did a real number on us and is a very questionable prospect both physically and maybe mentally (who knows) wants us to take a risk on him. It is a big ask considering what has gone down. Because people feel sorry for him they are expecting Freo to make an emotional rather than rational decision. I don't care if they pick him up, everyone makes stupid decisions in their lives, but i want the decision to be based on football reason not mindless compassion. We are in premiership mode, he has to be able to physically and emotionally be able to handle those demands. And he will be under even more pressure when Pav retires to shoulder a young tall forward line.

Is the general public really that precious that we react in such a way to comments like what RTB said? Weekly, if not almost daily, the media are out to instigate and antagonise players and coaches to the point where they might slip up (they're human believe it or not) which plays right in to the hands of the parasites that are "reporters" so they can blow it up in to a massive story. Generally speaking.

Now, what Ross said, "Mitch who? Oh Mitch Clark. He had an opportunity to come to our club that he didn't take" - what is wrong with that? RTB had a very valid point, he had no malice, he didn't tease, the reporter asked a question and he answered it. We all know how wrapped up Ross is with his job as coach of the Fremantle Football Club.

I am well aware of Mitch and his struggles and all the best to him. I hope he finds his feet and makes his way back to the footy field.

Yeah I'm of the opinion Ross wasn't deliberately being antagonistic. At least a few time each presser, coaches don't hear a question and asked for it to be repeated... Esp if it's a sudden veering away from the topic at hand. But meh, haterz gonna hate...

Anyway I am also of the opinion that we should be saying stuff Mitch Clark and be firmly on the Operation #GetPaddyRyder bandwagon. Personally speaking that is.

Ross was even at the club at the time. I heard Clark's manager last night and the whole discussion was just bizarre.

Happy to take him on board if he wants to be here now.

Bygones be bygones and all.

If we could work this I'd be happy. May cost the other Clarke though.

Ross meant no harm in what he said, next minute there's a letter from Mitch Clarkes manager on the front of the AFL page

Jesus, people are so sensitive these days

Any one know how exactly Freo botched the whole Mitch Clark thing which is apparently common industry knowledge?

Also, found this thread from 2009.

They think we should have coughed up the two first round picks (we had #16 and #20) we offered #20 for the injury prone homesick player who had agreed to terms with Fremantle.

Brisbane wanted more on the trade, Fremantle seemed happy to take him in the PSD. Melbourne threw the biggest contract he will ever see in his life at him, his family said that it will set you and your daughter up for life regardless of what you have to be at home for and then Melbourne paid a pick that would make you think they were missing a single link for a flag.

Ha so we basically just didn't want to sell the farm to get him. Don't see how that is botching a trade.

Young must be a total flog.

yup ... we botched it

I think you arrogantly offered Brisbane a shit pick, trying to bend them over (like how Port bent us over for Ebert), making the trade difficult.
It's called a negotiation you fruit. You don't go in offering your top right from the start.

Correct and from memory I think we did offer our first pick but Melbourne had the higher pick which could not be matched not to mention the million dollar over the top offer that Freo weren't prepared to match either.

Not quite. We originally offered our second (29) they wanted our first (16). In fact they wanted higher than our first so we would have had to trade player + pick 16 to upgrade to the pick they wanted, which we apparently looked around at trying to do but no luck early. Typical start of negotiations. High ball - low ball...

We also had pick 20, which was the compo for Palmer offing to GWS. We said we didn't want to trade out of the first round, they wouldn't take 29 - don't blame either party at this stage. We then offered 20 - they still wanted 16. In fact, at some point through all this they were asking for 16 and 20. Clark issued his statement via FFC website that he fully intended to be a Freo player by the end of trade week.

Trade was at a dead-lock, Melbourne and Schwabbolly started sniffing around saying they'd be prepared to give up pick 12, Brisbane were prepared to deal with Melbourne and Young just wanted the deal done, so he agreed to speak with Melbourne. We subsequently offered 16.

Looked to all and sundry like a done deal, papers were on the verge of being signed all round when the Schwabbolly crew felt that rush, that urge to 'win' at the trade table and land the big fish regardless of what it would cost (Croad, JCarr, Tarrant anyone???) - and whammo an extra $200K per year to Clark and pick 12 to Brisbane (who were happy to take pick 16 at that point), and Clark shafts us right up the clacker, and suddenly he's not so homesick anymore.
