We offered the compo pick (#20 - now Crozier), but Brisbane wanted 16 (Sheridan). Melbourne cut our grass with Pick 12 and a blank checkbook, care of Schwobboly. Yeah, we really blundered that one up.

Not quite. We originally offered our second (29) they wanted our first (16). In fact they wanted higher than our first so we would have had to trade player + pick 16 to upgrade to the pick they wanted, which we apparently looked around at trying to do but no luck early. Typical start of negotiations. High ball - low ball...
We also had pick 20, which was the compo for Palmer offing to GWS. We said we didn't want to trade out of the first round, they wouldn't take 29 - don't blame either party at this stage. We then offered 20 - they still wanted 16. In fact, at some point through all this they were asking for 16 and 20. Clark issued his statement via FFC website that he fully intended to be a Freo player by the end of trade week.
Trade was at a dead-lock, Melbourne and Schwabbolly started sniffing around saying they'd be prepared to give up pick 12, Brisbane were prepared to deal with Melbourne and Young just wanted the deal done, so he agreed to speak with Melbourne. We subsequently offered 16.
Looked to all and sundry like a done deal, papers were on the verge of being signed all round when the Schwabbolly crew felt that rush, that urge to 'win' at the trade table and land the big fish regardless of what it would cost (Croad, JCarr, Tarrant anyone???) - and whammo an extra $200K per year to Clark and pick 12 to Brisbane (who were happy to take pick 16 at that point), and Clark shafts us right up the clacker, and suddenly he's not so homesick anymore.

which came first, being a dickhead or getting depressed? I think the former in this case.
and we have have possibly wasted a high draft pick with Simpson .
Your post is admirable and well reasoned however AFL is a cut throat, high performance business and it is not unreasonable to question the suitability of an individual who places these kind of conditions on his availability to be in this business at all. He will be under the spotlight wherever he goes. Can you imagine the scrutiny on his return to the field? Not unlike the Ben Cousins return game without all the stupid signs. Is this really where a person suffering from depression should be? I don't know the answer, I'm just asking the question.Uncool post. Depression is real. And if he was diagnosed as clinically depressed as stated on record, a losing culture, the negativity of it day to day would have been taxing on his very real condition.
A positive culture with strong leadership group and less scrutiny on "stars" is the right place for a clinically depressed person. Freo, Hawks. Two best candidates for this. Freo box seat with the come home, support network factor.
I bet his healthcare professional is part of the driving force that says he needs better environment for his career, in order to stay healthy. Melbourne aint the place, even with Roos.
Nah, **** him. I've got friends who have mental health problems and they don't use it as a license to be a dickhead. At some point he has to take responsibility for his choices.Uncool post. Correct me if I'm wrong, because I am going off of my not so reliable memory here. But, didn't Brisbane want 16 and Zac Clarke? I think we rightly told them they're dreaming. We won out of that deal, because even if we did give up pick 16 we'd have had a player that has basically sat on the sidelines ever since. Not quite. Does anyone remember what the actual figures were in terms of what we offered and what Schwabby then chucked at him?
) we were offering ~$500-600K / 3 years, while Schwabbols threw a cool $800K / 4 years at him. The Age are reporting that Collingwood has again met with Mitch Clark, and is poised to make an offer to both he and the Demons about a move to the Westpac Centre.
It is understood that Heritier Lumumba and Collingwood have agreed to part company, with Lumumba keen to take on a leadership role at Melbourne and in particular link-up with good friend and former premiership teammate, Chris Dawes.
The deal for Clark to Collingwood would be utilised via Lumumba heading to Melbourne.

Young is wrong - Freo were quite correct not to match Melbourne's salary offer to Clark. He would have been the highest paid player on the list if we did, and it would have made it hard to retain players like Fyfe and Mundy down the track with less salary cap space. Bond and co looked after the club first.
Probably a win-win for Collingwood (maybe) and Melbourne too. Not sure where that leaves Jesse White thoughThat deal would be a win win for us.We wont see either of them down Freo way
Many lols. The Age are reporting that Collingwood has again met with Mitch Clark, and is poised to make an offer to both he and the Demons about a move to the Westpac Centre.

Why does that read way too much like an excerpt from a Kim Hackdorn article? If it is - you've just double-negative'd it and it's no longer going to happen. The Age are reporting that Collingwood has again met with Mitch Clark, and is poised to make an offer to both he and the Demons about a move to the Westpac Centre.

At the potato farm. Not sure where that leaves Jesse White though
Don't think Hagger's writes for the Age. But it might not happen anyway. Pretty sure neither are coming here. Not that I care either way.Why does that read way too much like an excerpt from a Kim Hackdorn article? If it is - you've just double-negative'd it and it's no longer going to happen.![]()
I might start a Jesse White to Freo thread just to piss off Salim and Jedi.At the potato farm.
