You'd think the National Draft would rule out Brisbane and GWS as candidates (they wouldn't be willing to use their picks). Melboune has offered Pick 12 though, so will most likely be prepared to use it to pick him up.

All of this of course pends on Clark and his willingness to play away from WA and if clubs will take the chance on him.

I'd expect him to get to Freo though, one way or another.

If you nominate for the ND you are saying you will play anywhere, Melbourne's offer is already bigger than Freo's so why wouldn't they pull the trigger?

Realy? if true that's childish.

Brisbane should have accepted pick 16 when it was offerred and saved time. I would be considering taking pick 16 off the table now. I don't understand what Brisbane think we can offer on top of that. Unless a real fringe player.

Really? if true that's childish.

Not really.. both sides just doing their job... it was offered when Melbourne made a their offer..

Fair enough but if we are still offering it imo they should take it. pick 16/20 is too good to lose for nothing when you are rebuilding in a compromised draft.

How? Your club is saying that pick 12 will get a deal done but pick 16 won't. There is not much difference between the two and we can't offer any pick higher than 16. Given the situation pick 16 is adequate compensation yet your club refuses to deal. Meanwhile Freo can't actively participate in trade week because everything is riding on this deal. If the Lions don't hurry up and accept pick 16 we should say stuff you and try our luck in the Pre-Season draft.

I don't see why Brisbane would happily accept 12 but seem to veiw 16 as an unresonable deal and Freo are a bunch of ***** the truth is we dont have anything better than 16.

I thought Brisbane said they will work to get Clark where he wants to go yet they refuse a decent offer only 4 spots lower in the draft from the club where Clark has openly stated he wants to play. To me that says that Brisbane are the ones being unreasonable here.

I hope like hell that Freo dont compromise on the offer of 16 it may be a little unders but its still reasonable and for once we dont need to bend over and cop a pounding at the trade table.

Please do. Your club appears to have a direct line to Mitch Clark so this can be agreed on very quickly between you two.

This is getting ridiculous now, picks 16 and 20 is more than fair considering Clarks contract status.

Brisbane are being very greedy.

Listening to TWR replays are you?

16 has been the only thing on offer......and rejected.

Only because Melbourne made a better offer of pick 12 and something else. Melbourne knew they had to offer overs for him to get him to consider not moving to Perth. But now that Clark has rejected their offer it becomes academic, Melbourne's offer is effectively out of the picture, Fremantle don't need to try and match it.

We are back to pick 16. It's the best pick we've got to offer.

Happy to resemble that remark.. 16 was only offered ..Dees offered pick 12 and one of the compo picks

First rounder+ was our starting point on the negotiation. Period.

If Bond decided to **** around with it, so be it.

I am sure some of this may have been said by others, certainly thought of:

Easy solution, if it happened to work out this way

1. No deal gets done between Freo and Bris.
2. Mitch nominates for PSD and puts $800k on his head for 1 season only and on condition that he lives and plays out of Perth - so any non-WA club selecting him will have to fly him weekly to play, and likely lose him at end of year for nothing - no-one would select him (absolutely huge mistake for a non-WA club) and if they did he would be open to get again next year
3. Immediately upon selecting Freo renegotiate his contract to 3-4 years at $400k per year, including 1st year
4. Reasoning for AFL if required: Mitch gets benefit of long-term contract - they can't really argue with that renegotiation - in court it would stand. Freo can say they were going to cut player(s) to fit into salary cap - if required to prove compliance of initial signing at $800k for 1 year.

So what would prevent this - only thing i can think of is AFL threat of "draft manipulation" but would that succeed if Freo and Mitch defended via court system? He does have valid reasons to condition his contract with living in Perth.

Firstly, value of contract needs to be over 2 years minimum. Secondly, he can only nominate financial terms of the contract, not where he is going to live.

.

This is a myth.

I'm 99.9% sure the only conditions a player can impose when nominating for the PSD is salary and contract duration.

Fremantle aren't going to lock themselves out of the first round of the draft. They traded the compo pick for pick 20 so they could offer a first round pick to Brisbane and keep one for themselves. There's never a realistic chance of getting both our first round picks.

If pick 16 and one of our lower round draft picks is no better because Brisbane won't be using lower rounds picks, that is unfortunate but not our fault.

As for pick 16 plus a player, there's few options available in that respect. I'm not sure any of our best 25 players are open to going to Brisbane. If anything it would be a fringe player, but it looks like Brisbane aren't keen on a fringe player.

It does look like an impasse. But it's a buyer's market.

If he puts himself into the draft he agrees to be drafted anywhere.and lets say the Dees pick him up at $800 (that was the media reported amount offered in bid ) then yep.... he can choose to live anywhere he wants...commuting to & fro is at his expense...no different to players who live in rural areas.

if i was a freo supporter, i wouldn't be very comfortable with what has happened at your club the last 6 weeks. backstabbing the senior coach, releasing media statements from opposition players. not very professional at all is it?

I don't think I would want someone like Mitch Clarke at the club (i am glad he is gone from the lions) after the way he has acted this week. He obviously thinks he is above the team, and obviously thinks he is going to walk straight into the best 22 at any club.

When i first heard that clarke wanted to go back to perth, i actually thought the neither freo or the eagles would actually want him as they are both very well off on talls.

he stinks as a forward, he is a fair ruckman, and useless in the backline. not really what you are looking for in a kpp. the best year he had was when he was one out in the ruck and pretty much played as an extra man in defense so he wasn't using up energy running all over the ground.

I can't even get him into the Freo best 22, so I don't know why they have been in his ear the last 6 months selling him on moving back to perth.
