Good on Melbourne for at least looking and doing their due diligence on Clark. However, I think they'll soon see the deal won't happen.

Robb Kerr really is playing this horribly. If they are going to pick him up in the PSD just because they wanted more than he was worth, then I can see a major boycott of Brisbane coming up. I've heard it said by someone that parents won't be wanting their kids there as they'll never be able to get home. It's true.

Melbourne lose nothing by doing due diligence on Clark.
Freo lose nothing by making an offer they think is fair but not getting the deal done.
Brisbane lose the respect of the AFLPA and fans around the country for treating players like slaves.

That's the worst case scenario. Best case is Brisbane do a deal that gets Clark to WA and keep credibility. Brisbane's board is probably looking at Robb Kerr right now asking "why is he talking so much?"

Kerr and Bond are both good list managers, But believe me if Kerr says we will take re-draft Clark then we will. Kerr dose not seem worried one bit. And I think you guys are trying to scare us and make us give him up for your compo or something worse.

Can't wait for that one.. AFLPA will have a field day with it and it might end the days of the PSD and bring in full free agency.

Hardly.

Brisbane started this process with no bargaining power. Kerr's strategy throughout it all has been to present alternative outcomes (Brisbane re-signing, WCE, Melbourne, Brisbane re-drafting) in order to improve our bargaining position.

What's the alternative? Just take pick 38 and be done with it? No club would agree to such a lop-sided deal.

I'm extremely confident that our 'credibility' has been enhanced by this process.

Brisbane are talking because they need to be seen to be trying to get the best deal they can i.e. trying everything, to get something.

Fremantle aren't talking because they need to be seen to be trying to get the best deal they can i.e. do nothing, pay nothing.

If Brisbane kept quiet, they would look like they'd simply rolled over. Likewise, if Fremantle was actually going public with comments reflecting their current stance - doing nothing and taking Clark in the PSD if needs be - they'd look like douchebags.

If we keep at least one of pick #16 or #20 I won't be too upset. I still think #16 is overs though given we're the only buyer.

that's good with me. we need to fill all our required positions for next year, and given the intent shown so far from an admin point of view, i think there's a point we'll just say 'stuff it' and get him. i won't care either, because we're drafting for a crack and at some stage dealing for the sake of looking good is self defeating.

I can see Freo combining both pick 16 and 20 to GWS for a lower pick and a prelisted player which we would keep and use the lower pick on Clark...Freo were after a pre-listed player in the 4 team deal that was stopped by the AFL otherwise no real reason to trade for Pick 20 this year with next years strong draft coming through...

mind you in a few years with all these concessions I don't think many teams will have a chance if they keep their lists intact

Why would we burn 16+20 for clark + prelisted ... makes no sense

Our 20 trumps west coasts pick 23 offer for clark. I'd put it up as a 'take it or leave it' with perhaps a late round swap. Keep 16, or trade 16+fringe player for 13-15+prelisted
