I believe he can go anywhere as delisted free agent. But not 100% sure
I dont think other Clubs would stand in the way of Melbourne re-drafting him with a last pick/or rookie pick, if thats what they (and Clark) wanted to do.
Also you would hope Melbourne would pay him something similar to what he was originally contracted in 2015 for.

He got a payout when he retired, he wouldn't expect anything like that anyway seeing as how his contract and inability to (in his own mind) to "live up to it" was part of the problem.

It's a pipedream anyway, he won't make a comeback.

Hopefully he's doing well mentally.

I would have thought the obvious club is Fremantle, or perhaps WC (although they have a hatfull of ruck/forwards already). If he is living in WA then I doubt any non-WA club would touch him. And I am not sure Freo would go for him given that he bailed on us for a fist full of silver.

Regardless, good luck to him whatever pans out.

When a player is paid out is that money (or potential money) still tied up in the salary cap for the years the contract was set to run to?

If he returns and plays for a different club while getting paid out by melbourne will 2 clubs be paying for him in the one season?

He has gotten a payout and the contract is torn up. Melbourne have already stopped paying him so I don't think the above scenario is possible.

But does the payout end in the season the contract is ripped up (even if it takes them over tpp)? or, do they pay it over the course of the contract..... ie. if franklin just up and quits the swans due to mental illness, I doubt that we could afford a multi-million dollar pay out in one season and comply by the rules of the competition.

So I think it could easily happen

I heard about a month back that Saints had been speaking to him. Dunno what and if any progress from there was made. Not even sure if he's dead keen to return.

Mitch would find it pretty insulting if we tried. One of the reasons he gave for leaving the clubs was receiving paychecks that he felt weren't justified due to his inability to play. He'd be keen to get a fresh slate, and be wanting to prove his worth.

It would be ridiculous if he played in 2015 for anyone other than Melbourne. It would create a precedent where a player could say they are having mental problems just to get to their team of choice the following year.

As much as I hope he gets back to playing AFL footy, it's a case of badluck from me. Had his chance to play for us and instead took a bigger offer from the Dees.

I'm sure he'll be shattered that 1 of 18 teams that want him are sore he didn't join them ...

Two. Given the debacle last time around, I doubt Brisbane would throw their hat in the ring. :)

How can you be sure that every team wants him? He played 15 games in his first 2 seasons at Melbourne. Great player but he is very Injury prone.

Great player, available for next to nothing if he's coming back, best 22 for every team in the comp. Unless there's an off-field reason, i.e. Brisbane, or salary cap reasons, every team would be looking at him.
