Yeah, it's got a sniff of the Playfair in 2005 about it, doesn't it? Walker wanted out. Pods is gone. Stanley is rucking. Clark is injured. It's the big chance for the unproven bloke to get 6-8 games in a row as the big cheese.

If Clark doesn't come back - and Vardy stays fit - he could get 22 games in a row.

Unless he flops and Henderson kicks goals I guess. Even if Bobby loves him, Kersten's not an AFL centre-half forward. Wylie Buzza, anyone? ;)
Don't think anyone believes Kersten's best suited to a key forward role. If we can get some crumb value from the likes of McCarthy, Motlop etc the importance of another key forward will not be as important. It's an aspect of our game where we've been lacking for ages.

Some people seem to list him as a key forward, or at least a marking target. He seems to me to have what I might call Charlie Gardiner syndrome - not big enough to be a key forward, but plays a bit like one.

He has not even played a real VFL game yet.

If Kersten turns out to be as good as Gardiner I'd take that in a heartbeat

I watched him closely over here and he was putrid in the first half - I doubt he even knows how to spell contested or use your fecking strength and frame to influence a contest. Got onto some cheapies in the second half but this can't make up for his insipidness.
Needs a huge turnaround else his cards should be marked:mad:

Are fans happy to finish dead last to receive those priority picks? Especially when a total rebuild of the stadium is on and the club still feeling the effects of near bankruptcy?

We can say finishing last and getting priority picks will get you back up, but does it for small market teams?
Hey I'm not advocating doing it. Just saying that it has proven successful for many clubs in the past. Although others have failed as well. Trying to bring a bit more balance into the argument.

His time is now.

If they intend Vardy to play CHF in the longer term, now is the time to give him a run at it, in the absence of Clark, and with Stanley/Blicavs as seemingly viable 2nd/3rd ruck options.
It's a notoriously difficult position to play, and NAB 1/2 were probably the only times he's ever played 2 consecutive games in the 1sts with CHF as his primary position.

Maybe, just maybe, malhepi got one correct.

I won't repeat it as Ce will just delete it again.

It wouldn't be embarrassing, it would be great. Especially if we actually win some finals.

It's a fairly simple set of conditions:

Win finals = good.
Lose finals = bad.
Big name recruits who perform well and assist in winning finals = very good.
Big name recruits who perform poorly and assist in losing finals = very bad.

Now comes the "but YOU would be embarrassed at being wrong" part. No I wouldn't, I'd welcome it. As it stands, I'm dubious about Clark's durability and whether he'll return to play significant football (or any) for us. We shall see.

As for the final statement, you'd be the last person to listen to about what others get wrong. How did that call for a premiership last year go again?

So you think that the Clark trade could work out well for us ? you better stop telling us that it was a stupid decision by the club to get him than.

I didn't get anything wrong, you know I was the only Geelong poster on bay 13 to continuously predict before the start of 2007 that Geelong was about to enter a Brisbane like period of success .

Good lord that opening paragraph is grasping a hell of a lot at straws given what you bolded
