Isn't he asking for 500k a year?

Are Freo or Richmond willing or able to offer that?

Pavlich and Mcpharlin will go the veterans list next year so that will free up $500,00-$600,000 in the salary cap. But tbh I'm not overly fussed about getting Clark. When Sandi is fit he ain't gonna do much rucking and he hasn't shown much as a key forward this year. I would hate for us to trade and pay over the top for him when we have Griffin and Zac Clarke as backups. I think the money that he has put on himself is a bit much.

They can take him for free & dont need to offer brisbane anything,Brisbane will get a compo pick & have to settle for it.

Wow, a second round pick in a weak draft and a list clogger from a team that is just as bad as us.

I'll take the compo pick any day, especially as we can use it in next year's draft.

Band 2 could potentially be a top 5 pick next year. Even Band 3 would be much better than your silly offer.

Actually you are right in a way , i dont know what a band 3 pick is & would be good if you explained it.

Firstly if you look through my past post in the last 3 months i am more than in favour of trading our 1st rounder for mitch Clarke but posted that richmond wouldnt be willing to do that based on their recent comment about holding onto 1st round picks yesterday.
Giant's draft rules explained

As per the rules with Gold Coast, the compensatory pick would be assessed around the player’s age (greater weighting for younger players), club contract ranking (greater weighting for club key players), on field performance (greater weighting for strong club best and fairest performance) and draft position if less than four years experience.
That should help you understand the metrics used to award compensatory draft picks.

But if you trade folly for a 17 year old that would free up some salary space so you could get him.

Salary cap isnt the issue at richmond , we are paying bare minimum atm 92% but the administration have taken a stance as to not making new comers more expensive than existing players like martin, delidio, newman, foley, cotchin, riewoldt.

By the way link doesnt work andif somebody could actually explain what band 3 pick is worth !

Band 3 pick comes at the end of the 1st round of draft, which would only be a few picks ahead of the Tigers 2nd rounder.

Band 2, however, comes immediately after the clubs existing 1st round pick. Seeing as the Lions are down the bottom, and unlikely to "do a West Coast" next year, it could turn into a pretty handy pick in a strong draft if they chose to use it next year. Seeing as Bock got Band 3, and Clark being around 3 years younger, I'd suspect it entirely possible he could get Band 2... certainly that's what the Lions would be hoping.

Don't worry mate, the Tigers have already said two things publicly that indicate he won't be coming to the Tigers:

1. They've said that the $ Mitch is asking for, we won't be paying
2. They've also said that our first rounder will be used for the best kid available in the draft. As you say, 2nd rounder won't do it, and I reckon the Tigers know this.

As much as a few Tigers supporters are saying the first round pick should be used if the right player came up, and that we're only paying 92.5% salary cap so we can make room etc, the vibe coming from the club is quite different.

Personally, I hope he stays at the Lions, he gets settled and happy there, and produces some consistent form. He seems a bit hot and cold to me, perhaps because he's a bit distracted by thoughts of contracts, will he be able to get home to a Perth club, does he take the GWS $ etc.

Apologies about the link. Something went awry in the process. It should work now.

I hope he goes to GWS personally. His attitude and inconsistency irks me. I'd rather him go to GWS, get us a band 2 pick and have our genuine young guns immune from GWS in 2012.

So am I. I'm sympathetic to the plight of teams losing players to the Suns and Giants. Given that qualification I'd like to see the Giants put together a very good squad, one better than the Suns for one reason or another.

The Lions will be fairly compensated for the loss of Clark is he chooses to move on, especially to the GWS.

Clark is worthy of band 2. I would be amazed if we got anything more or less.

Agreed.

In fact I think a guy who can play ruck or KPF would be worth more (and much harder to find) than a midfielder like Scully but the AFL seem to be blinded by the whole No.1 pick scenario.

Mitch Clark can be a very very good player for another 8-9 years.

Tippett to Brisbane for the pick you get for Clark? That may be a nice and simple transaction for both of us.

For some reason I dont think you can trade band 2?, I dont think we would do that with the super draft next year. I heard there are some good talls who will be available. I heard there was a clause in his contract that he could leave for a 2nd rounder?

You can trade any compo pick, regardless of band.

Yep, but if it's band 2 we'd be stupid to give it to the Crows for Tippett. Will be worth a lot more to us in 2012 superdraft. If we get Tippett it will be for a cheaper price than that.

Couldn't see us trading a band 2 for Tippett given we are likely to be in the bottom third of the competition again next year. I would trade our band 3 plus a second rounder for him though. Much more likely that GC would put together a more attractive package.

I read the Age article today of the Rockliff article as a confirmation that he is on the way to GWS.

I cannot see why Gold Coast would want Tippett unless they had doubts over their tall forwards, but they have 3 very talented tall prospects. I would like to see Brisbane trade for Tippett but keep their first pick next year. Maybe we could trade for him this year but probably harder as he is still contracted.

Tippett for Second Round Pick + Band 3 compo pick this year.

We would never, never trade him for two second round picks (which ultimately is what a Band 3 is). Don't believe the garbage about him having it listed in his contract what he will be traded for - that's never happened in the history of the competition, and there is no reason why the Crows would have put that in there.

It'll either be to the GCS for Day or Gorringe/Jolly or to you guys for a reasonable asset (like perhaps Polec).

I don't really understand why you wouldn't think going from Mitch Clark to Kurt Tippett isn't a bad result. He could step straight into the same spot in your structure.

And there's a chance that one or many may either not develop or choose to leave.

I dont think that it would be a bad result I would not offer up band 2 compo pick for Tippet. anyway you are likely to get band 2 for davis.

Getting Tippett would be a good result but there is no need for us to give up something of equivalent value unless we have to. Free agency isn't too far off for Tippett. If we waited an extra year or so, we could get him for free. We aren't going to be playing finals for a few years so we could bide our time.
