What's everyone's views on Mitch's chances of playing until 2025 and getting to 300 games? Is 2024 definitely his last year or could he go another one after that?

Currently on 274 games.

Agreed. Hopefully 2024 is a dignified exit for him.
He was a bit banged up last year. I wouldn't write him off yet. Hopefully he gets to 300 without a limp.

Ah, the good ol' "Duncan fell off a cliff" story.

Time for a little reminder of who declined and improved this year compared to 2022 through an objective, quantifiable approach. Note, if you are not on one of the two "naughty" lists you were not a notable factor in Geelong's 2023 decline.

Firstly, the big bad. Two veterans very much in Duncan's class who did massively decline. But where is Mitch?

Secondly, those who fell of a little bit. Veterans, most of whom had some injury issues. SDK and Bews perhaps a little lucky not to feature.

Then the few who improved:

Who was more or less the same, from our regulars? Stewart, Duncan, Dangerfield, Zuthrie, J.Henry, Close and Holmes to name a few.

Besides that the year's failure was induced by injuries, losing the close games, Selwood's retirement and C.Guthrie's absence.

Cameron, Stengle, Kolo, Blicavs and Stanley bouncing back (plus "new recruit C.Guthrie") and a bunch of under 28s joining the "improving" list will be much more important to our chances of success than if Duncan, Dangerfield and Stewart bang out a replica of their 2023 season. And whatever combination of players is necessary to give us what Smith and Tuohy did before their drop off (Dempsey, Knevitt, Bowes on a wing, Holmes having a huge year, O'Connor moving permanently to half back).
