Seems a little slow in traffic, but I remember a few other guys who were the same ..Kelly, Bartel, Corey got bagged for that at various stages of their careers (and they turned out OK):thumbsu: . Will be interesting to see how he performs in the heat of the finals.

He's nowhere near elite. Firstly his accountability needs to improve, closely followed by consistency.

Makes too many errors at the minute and is a little too cocky, as harsh as it sounds. Has enormous potential and upside, but the question is whether he has the desire to improve himself further.

I expect to be berated, but that's how I've seen him for a while now.

*sorry

I'm glad you posted this as I was unsure of it's location, but during the first 5 rounds of this season I've already conceded defeat and admitted I was off the mark numerous times. In fact in doing so, I retracted my comments and heaped praise on his ability to transform himself into not only an elite runner, but vastly improve the defensive aspect of his game. He now runs hard both ways, but it hasn't always been the case. He's also lost his cocky attitude, so full credit must be given.

Fantastic isn't it.
I remember a discussion around 2011/2012 or so, not sure if with mates, guys at work or on here, about those kids we had at the time (Menzel, Bundy, Duncan etc) and each one of us said Bundy would be a star, Menzel would be a star and Duncan would be a pretty solid 150 or so gamer, have a decent career but never really be great.
Wrong.
Very wrong.
The guy has 250+ game STAR written all over him, does everything well and is a very well rounded player in the sense of offensive/defensive and inside/outside bias.

He's just burning so well and so slow.

How calm does he look when he has the ball?

Put it perfectly with his "well-roundedness". I would be comfortable with him starting on the outside or inside.

How lucky are we!?

No, I think he's actually dropping off the curve a bit (although has been a little better lately). I rated him further ahead of his peers two years ago than I do now.
Good to see Duncan increasing his output this year, in the absence of a fair chunk of midfield support.

I honestly think Duncan is a little under-rated if anything. He has just progressed slowly and steadily, and isn't necessarily the most dynamic or eye-catching of players. Then you look a little further and see he has increased his numbers little by little every year. He must be doing something right. I'm very comfortable when he's having a shot for goal; he didn't look like missing any of the 3 he kicked on Sunday.

Won't be long and he'll be celebrating 100 games. Hopefully we'll get many many more.

I think at the start of the year expectations were for a big year from him ... not sure we have seen that yet. Yes the slow burn continues and he is getting better, but still goes missing in some games. He looked a lot better on the weekend just gone and I reckon that's three or four good games he has now had for the year, if he can keep on going and become more consistent then he will light up the finals (here's hoping!).

I think he gets unfairly judged compared to others. If he has even a modest game it's highlighted but plenty of others perform far worse more often without anywhere near as much criticism.

Duncan is one of the guys that has earnt the respect of expectation.
As weird as that sounds.

i.e. If we aren't travelling well he's one of the guys you think of first. "Hows Dunc travelling?"
Because we just expect 20-25 hard possessions now, and consistently.

Is he our barometer? :P

I thought he was pretty eye-catching in the pre-season games and expected more of the same this season. I couldn't help but be a little disappointed at first, when it didn't happen, but then realised that I was looking for the wrong thing. He's more of a steady, steady player with the occasional flash, than the flashy player who doesn't do anything in between the flashes... if that makes sense? I'm very happy with his improvement and perhaps the less-flashy play is happening because he's become more of a team player, which flows on from his leadership role and how he tries to bring younger players into the game.

Duncan is not Joel Corey, but Joel Corey is who you're describing.

Not quite- ;) JC isn't playing this year

I like your comparison, though- will have to bear that in mind when I watch Duncan because I've not really thought of him as our own JC reincarnated.
Well, he can kick goals better than Corey, luckily. But I agree, there is an understated, no-nonsense style to his game that is reminiscent of Joel Corey.

I never said he's as good as or ever going to be as good as JC - gee, look at JC's record - but the no-nonsense and unobtrusive approach and the versatility, his frequent use as the MC's go-to man for a problem spot, his desperate courage in going backwards to spoil in defence, all these are reminiscent (thanks for the spelling mac cat, one of my all-time problem words) of the great man.

His long-range goals are almost Mackie-like. He seems to be more accurate on the run than he is from set-shots (but I'm only going off my impressions here- his actual stats might show the exact opposite!)

don't stress Fred- I was only kidding about the reincarnation.. I think you have to be dead to be reincarnated actually ;)

I just meant that I was going to have a look at his style more closely, how he does goes about his game, etc. rather than just watch when he has the ball in his hands, as I tend to do sometimes.

Oh no, I wasn't stressing with anything you said, I just wanted to make it absolutely clear that I was not over-boosting him and saying he is going to be as good as JC, people can very easily misinterpret things when you compare just some aspects of players, particularly if they're just looking for a blue.
