Recommitted Mitch McGovern [contracted and staying at Carlton]

would 100% take him at Collingwood he fits a need.

Much like every other club, would be dependant on Carlton paying an amount of his salary OR taking back negative contracts from our end.

McGovern & Second Rounder for Cox and Sier would probably get it done.

In all honesty the 2nd rounder is the only one from that lot that has value and is on the cheapest contract

Sier - Wow is he still on your list

You'd be wasting your money, he is no good.

Hes ok but he is far too injury prone and not fit enough. For that reason i doubt clubs will take him.

Common denominator ?
fremantle
Probably....

Was Frustrating with bennell....

Traded a fair bit to get him, only to be constantly injured.

Hogan.... Well good a Demons, was horrible at freo then revived his career at GWS.

McCarthy? Was not going to be a spear head. He was going to be a 2nd tall at CHF or a 3rd tall on a forward flank. Had some ok games. Had some talent. McCarthy even Admitted himself he didnt have that drive to become a better player.

What that tells me is either fremantle dont do their home work or dont have the right people in charge that know what they are doing
Whilst we did make the mistake with Yarran Richmond did make an informed call regarding Bennell.

Dusty's words were "He is too loose"

Of all the 3 trades..... Hogan was easily the worst out of the 3, Because when he left, Freo got nothing out of that deal.

With the Cam McCarthy trade, It was pick 3 for Cam McCarthy, Pick 8 in Griffen logue, pic 32 in Sean Darcy and Pick 72 in Luke Ryan. So trade pick 3 for 4 solid players to improve your best 22 wasnt that bad.

At least with the Bennell Trade.... Pick 16 and 34 for Bennell and Pick 22 was ok. Pick 22 was pushed back to pick 28 and that was darcy tucker. So at least there was a positive in that trade, despite Bennell not working out in the end.

true cost goes beyond just draft picks , Salary paid to Bennell / McCarthy / Hogan combined with the list place and development resources they consume
whilst t the club is all a big cost with $$$ but also the consumed list spot where a kid may have developed

The only reason Carlton would trade him is to get rid of his salary, they will not be paying any of it.

this isn’t a Collingwood situation where we need him gone or else we will breach the cap

It would be interesting to know what the senior Carlton players get paid;

JMartin.
McGovern.
Williams.
Plowman.
Saad.
Docherey etc

Maybe so... but you got to look at the situation at the time...

Freo tried to get Harley Bennell at the end of 2015 as Freo thought he was the last piece of the puzzle to beat the hawks and get a flag in 2016. Freo goes 0-10 and Bennell gets injured. the 2015 Draft wasnt a strong draft in my opinion. Bennell was on $500-$600,000 a year from 2016-18. He then was on minimum wage in 2019.

Cam McCarthy wanted to go to freo at the end of 2015. Freo offered 2 1st rounders and GWS said no. That backfired on GWS, Freo then focused to get Harley Bennell instead. We got McCarthy in the end. I dont think he was on big cash at freo.

Hogan was traded in as Freo needed a KPF. We also got Rory Lobb as well. Hogan was on big wages. So is Lobb, He is on $700,000 a year.

McGoverns contract is heavily front loaded. He will not be paid anywhere near 750k next year. He wants to stay at Carlton as he has good relationship with Teague.

All that said, be good to trade in return for a second rounder.

Media reports all say the opposite. Back ended and on around $1mil this year and next.

Unfortunately Mitch is one of a select few players with negative trade value. Carlton would need to throw in a decent pick for a team to take on his salary.

I assume clubs can't trade away picks to get rid of a bad contract?

Like McGovern and a 2nd.to dogs / salary dump.

Maybe another Treloar like significant wage contribution.
