Good get Swannies. Could really turn it on for you guys, I reckon, filling that forward pocket / HFF position. Loads of potential and you paid next to nothing for him.

Bit disappointed about this. One thing is for sure, Mitch Morton is definitely a better bet than whoever is going to be taken at 79 in this draft. Have a feeling Hardwick had probably had enough of his attitude and had decided to delist him anyway.

I'm puzzled about this one. Pick 79 wtf!!!!
Morton is exactly the sort of player that Sydney will turn into a gun, cannot understand Richmond's thinking, unless they have cap issues?

Great move by Sydney. The guy obviously has talent but something hasn't quite worked for him at Richmond. Exactly the sort of player Sydney turn into very good serviceable players.

The only cap issue we have is paying enough to reach the minimum cap. There is something more to the Morton thing that only those inside at Richmond know about.

Richmond have trouble making the cap minimum so it wouldn't be that. He probably does have quite a price with him though and was probably let go to make some more cap space.

He was obviously going to be delisted but we should have got more than pick 79 he has more currency than that. I feel like he wasn't properly shopped around. Sydney have pick 60, surely we could have got that or one of their players or something. Don't like this trade.

Yeah pick 79 makes it a low Risk deal for us, but lets remember he is now onto his 3rd club.
Equal chance of him never making the side for not working hard enough.

Yes.

When asked at a pre game function mid season about Morton one of the Assistant Coaches didn't hesitate to talk about off field issues being involved.

Depending on what the issues are, change of club / city (again) may help him.

Good get for Sydney.

Talented, but starved for opportunities because he doesn't fit Hardwick's preferred style (100% effort, all the time ), and tends to be more the type who either has a big impact or goes missing. His results overall are probably, good enough to get a game in most teams though, which makes 79 a steal.

Went to school and played footy with the lad, not trying to play the know it all tag and I admit I dont know his work ethic and what he is like around the club these days, but is a decent fella and as we know a talented footballer.

Just the kind of talent that may excel under Sydney´s intuition. Nothing lost at 79 and I guess not too much lost from Richmonds point of view either. Good luck to him.

Obviously talented but doesn't seem the easiest guy to manage.

Was the leading goal kicker in 2009 despite being dropped in round 7 for not putting the team first and copped that famous "you've just cost me my career" spray the next round.

He also took half the year of last season with a personal issue.

What's the deal Tiges?

Great get for Sydney, make no mistake he will flourish up there, these sorts of players always do.

I'm obviously very dissapointed with what we got in return. However if there is any saving grace, it's that he was uncontracted and there's every chance he would have walked out/ been delisted.

I guess pick 79 is better than nothing, though not much better.

Will be interesting to see how he goes....

Has played mostly as a FP at Richmond and West Coast, but IMO plays his best football further up the ground.

Very good kick and IMO should be played mostly in a high half forward/outside midfielder role.

I don't think I have ever been more disappointed in a player than what I was in Mitch in the penultimate round this year against the Crows. I travelled over for the game and what I saw was a player completely unwilling to do anything that resembled more than a jog. If it hasn't sunk into his head by now, it is likely it never will.
I hope it works out for him, and I hope I am proven wrong, but I'm not sorry to see him go.

Second this. Also was at that game.

Sydney is the perfect fit and he should have some decent games.

We obtained market value

The Swans just picked up their succession plan for O'Keefe :thumbsu: Morton always had the talent but just never got the chance to play up the ground and show it off.

You can argue who's fault that is but I think he will be a jet.

Another rumour was that he didn't really gel with the playing group, bit of a lone wolf.

Similar thing at West Coast plus an ego that is a problem.

Immense talent but very lazy.

PS: Sydney just make sure you dont let his Father get to close to the Club.

Morton is undoubtedly a talent. But it appears that his father's and his view of his skills were not shared by others.

Maybe at a third club, he can do himself justice.
