Re: Mitch Thorp dumped by Hawthorn Football Club

What's your experience with this kid Diablo?

I personally don't have any, but I do know quite a few of the Hawthorn blokes who have, and some of the stories they have told me about the way he carries himself beggars belief.

Re: Mitch Thorp dumped by Hawthorn Football Club

you're probably thinking of boyle. thorpe will get picked up somewhere. if there's no other talls in the draft and if his arrogance doesn't force him to throw a ridiculous price on his head then i'd throw a second rounder at him

Worth a try by the sounds.
And we need to discover a new tall forward. :thumbsu:

Re: Mitch Thorp dumped by Hawthorn Football Club

I have little doubt Hawthorn sees the comparison.

Well we all know WC had a wide and varied range of interests. Perhaps the young blokes has started to have the same interests.

Are we saying he has been practicing his Ten Pin Bowling? Awesome form, plenty of confidence however does tend to struggle when he is on two strikes , going for a Turkey? I think Wayne was quite good at the game , his specialty was the 7-10 split quite often nicknamed Goal Posts , sometimes called Bedposts.

Anyway , no matter the distractions we should way carefully talent versus dedication. One would have to be very convinced of someone, anyone who has apparently been less than professional. Yet some might have accused Drum of a bad attitude over at Freo as well. Would his attitude be effected by being recruited to a club who has the best two young KPF in Roughhead and Buddy which means he really has little chance of breaking into the side?

Really setup for a side like Richmond or Freo , I would have thought. No more excuses if get to those clubs.

Methinks you've just smashed the nail on the head.

Re: Mitch Thorp dumped by Hawthorn Football Club

Thinks bigger!

You wouldn't be talking about some bloke from Drouin would you?

Used to kick around on a wing / half forward flank early in he's career before moving to the goal square?

Some bloke named Ab.... Ab... Ab - something?

Nah it's not coming to me

Thorp undoubtedly has talent..but I don't want his attitude issues.
Take someone who actually really wants to play and is willing to work hard enough to make it happen.

For any of those thinking we should pick him up just have a read at the article by Scott Gullen in today's Hun:

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/hawks-ponder-joel-selwood-factor/story-e6frf9jf-1225793010155

He writes in relation to Thorp lining up on Tom Harley in an early '07 VFL game: "As the Cats veteran walked up to Thorp at the start of the game, the teen greeted him with: "I'm going to end your career today.""

These sorts of big talking w*nkers are exactly the type of guys we DON'T want at the club!

^ And Harley went on to get 2 premierships and he got 2 strikes....(at ten pin bowling).

Don't need pill poppin' snorters at our club.

but the w***er was right,he did end Harley's career......his VFL career :D
Enjoy running about in some shithole suburban league Thorpie.

If anyone will pick him up and smack his mouth into line, then its Geelong. You did it with Ablett and I am sure you can do it with him.
I could never see him getting a full time 22 starter position with Roughy and Buddy in, but when Mooney goes you will most likely only have Hawkins as the tall, so perhaps he is worth a punt.

Would be interesting. he is a good size, but he's been oft injured and that Harley jibe probably won't endear him to the players at Catland initially.

But then again, will the delisting be a sort of tonic to get him to realise he is wasting a great chance of playing AFL? It could work, i reckon Geelong's culture now might be a pretty persuasive thing. Can't imagine Thorp's apparent arrogance lasting too long if he started giving attitude to Chapman, Scarlett, Bartel and co.

Holywars - Dermie loves bringing up the "how many flags did you win with Ablett , how many did we win after he left" . Sort of forgets that the Hawks actually chased and signed up GASr at one stage but decided leave it in the draw when he changed his mind and wanted to continue at Geelong.

Anyway , things have changed. We now pick as much on character as anything and really doubt we would chase him.We have shown in the past we usually prefer to pick a kid and train him "our way"

As far as young replacements go , we have Brown which other clubs probably know little about but I've been told he will be "something special". To let Simpson and McKenna go , it shows the club has confidence in Browns ability to come up.

To be fair he did murder Harley that day. Think he kicked 6. So its not loike he went missing. backed it up at least..

Still, hes not on our list with 1 year left on his contract for a very valid reason, im sure....

6 on Harley? I'd like to see a link to the VFL thread on this match if there is one

Re: Mitch Thorp dumped by Hawthorn Football Club

are you joking? if anyone over at hawthorn saw even a smidge of the duck in him i highly doubt that we would have delisted him with a year left on his contract regardless of injuries/attitude/both.

if he does end up in the ND or PSD i wouldn't expect cats to pick him up anyway, I believe you lot are a bit smarter than that. you wouldn't need his arrogance mucking up salary cap issues. let someone like richmond take him.

however, i do wish mitch all the best.

If it's his injuries and not his attitude that are hampering his progress then I doubt Hardwick would take that risk.

I reckon the Cats could sort out the attitude issues as they proved when they persisted with Stevie J who turned out to be a gun!

But I suspect it's more than just that otherwise Hawthorn wouldnt have dumped him with a year still left on his contract.

Re: Mitch Thorp dumped by Hawthorn Football Club

sj had a different attitude problem

mitch's is as high as a kite
enough said (lawrence angwin had talent too, )

Re: Mitch Thorp dumped by Hawthorn Football Club

Well, we've all seen the Hawthorn in your face arrogance of 08, and it was so good to see their great fall 09, so maybe its the club and not the kid.
OK, maybe he's got some maturing to do, but at Geelong its all about self control and self dignity.
It will be the making of him if he's got the goods, I'd like to see us with two Mitchells, both tall forwards.

The delisting reality check would've knocked some of the unjustified arrogance out of him. If our medical staff think his body can hold up to the rigours of AFL football and assess he is a risk worth taking, bring him to the club pronto. I'm confident we can succeed where the angry midget and his stooges at the mayblooms failed and steer him to becoming a champion for us.

His obnoxious arrogance was well known going into the draft, so it's definitely not Hawthorn.

His problems extend well beyond his arrogance (although they do stem from it).
Hawthorn knew about his narcissism from day one and whilst they didn't necessarily like it, they tolerated it.
They didn't delist him and cost themselves $150k simply because he was arrogant.
