If we force him into the psd it'd depend on if ball nominates and whether Richmond will have 2nd pick. Depending who's left come our 3rd round pick he may be worth a shot at that. If there's still a player who the coaching staff wants at 36 then take them by all means and take thr punt he's still there at 48. Some say 36 will be too early, look at Bradshaw and hall both north of 30 and still with a few good years left, if our medicos believe is now in good order we have a KPP for the next ten plus years, which is certainly building for the future

Hell I'd be happy if we used our last 2 picks in the ND on McDonald and Thorpe if they nominate.

4, 20, 36, 48, 49, 52 & 68

I don't have any problem (given that he checks out ok with the FFC medicos) if we pick him up in ND anywhere after Pick 36.

Don't clubs now push players to them by getting the player to say he does not want to play for anyone else..?

Pretty much what would happen is that if Thorp wanted to go to Carlton for example, the Blues would just tell him to say to clubs like Freo - "I dont want to move to Perth, I dont want to play for Freo, I will go because I have to but will just move home after my mandatory contract is up". That is normally a pretty good way to stop a club drafting you.

Yeah, I think it's sound policy to only draft a guy like Thorp if he wants to relocate to WA and agrees to terms with Freo before going into the PSD. Thorp is a risk that might be worth taking but only if he sees his future opportunities at Freo and passes medical testing. I can't see us using a ND pick on him.
I think McDonald is a much safer bet - a mature AFL regular - and would be more than happy if he wanted to play for us.

We'd need to get Thorp through the PSD or else we could be looking at having to use one of our first 3 picks. If he's happy to come that way, Richmond would be our only competition <insert joke about Thorp being stuck between a rock covered in AIDS and a hard place covered in necrotizing fasciitis> as Melbourne looks likely to take Ball.

I'd go with McDonald in the ND, with any pick after 36.

Richmond won't pick Thorp if he has a clause in his contract saying he's going to be based in Perth.

We could put up MacDonald and Thorp in a lodge on Rotto, as per their contract requirements and nobody bar the Eagles would take a second look at either of them.

Hardwick is the problem for us.
He was an Assistant at Hawks and knows Thorp so it appears to me that he would be interested in taking him to Richmond given the crap they have on their list.

Agreed - plenty of opportunity for game time there too plus no moving.

We would be a long shot.

Depends what Hardwick thought of Thorp, it could mean Richmond aren't interested.

I Must say i hope that you guys take a gamble on Thorp, he is a potential star, i'm extremely angry Hawthorn have delisted him, but i also want to see him get a fair go....
When he was drafted he had several question marks over his Injuries, including a suspect hip that he has since had an operation on, a re-alignment to be exact, then he broke his sesamoid bone in his foot and missed all this year, if he is fit he will be a gun...

He has confidence, he kicked 6 goals on Harley for Box Hill and even told Harley when he lined up on him 'I'm going to ruin your F****** career' lol
It didn't work, but he wasn't phased by the big boys....he even started biffo with Richo in his first game before the bounce, i knew he was a star on the rise.

I'd think Richmond, Melbourne, Sydney and Carlton would all be keen to get him in the Draft....

Good Luck.:thumbsu:

Matt Maguire has just been delisted by the Saints as well. Don't spose anyone is keen on him considering our lack of KPP defenders?

I haven't seen him play for a couple of years but the reports from people who've seen him in the VFL lately don't sound all that encouraging.

Bit slow but maybe an alternative to Grover, if we don't pick up McDonald. He may be slow but Grover is slow and short

Yeah if Thorp, McDonald and Ball are all gone I wouldn't be against the idea of picking him up on the cheap.

He's still only 25 so there's still time for his body to come good and we aren't exactly blessed for depth when it comes to key defenders. From all accounts he's the ultimate team man too which never hurts.

According to VFL reports Maguire has lost speed when turning to cover forwards' leads, fairly big problem for a KP defender. His was a really bad leg break and he's unlikely to return to what he was.

article

THE spluttering AFL career of former first-round draft pick Mitch Thorp will be revived at another club in the forthcoming draft period, according to his manager Liam Pickering.

No real new revelations in this article, but upon further reading, perhaps we should make a play for this guy over McDonald.
He may very well compliment Pavlich, Balla, Mayne

All of this sounds great with Thorp, but has anyone else heard that the guy is an ego maniac? I have heard stories (the age I think) where he went up to Harley (Geelong) in a VFL game when Harley was returning from injury. Thorp reportedly said that " I am going to end your career today!"

Now don’t get me wrong, confidence is one thing but saying something like that when you have played less that 10 AFL games to an AFL premiership Captain smacks of the delusional.

If this is the case, how would he fit in at Freo under Harvey? Not too well I would have thought.

This happened, and Thorpy even did a good job of it and kicked 6.2 on Harley at CHF.

Frankly the guy sounds like a tool. Harvey is getting rid of all the bad attitude, we are not that desperate that we need to start adding more.

Tom Harley is a tosser. Mouthing off at him then stitching him up makes him worth grabbing in my opinion.

Plus having the best captain in the AFL available to take him aside for a quiet word every now and then might take a few of the rough edges off him.

If the rumours of Fremantle being interested in Justin Bollenhagen are true, then clearly it doesn't matter if you are the biggest tool around....

Some potential quality in this PSD. I would be chasing Smith then Thorp. I also think mcquire would be worth a pick too.he certainly would be a solid pickup even if he cant quite get to previous high levels.I am not that keen on Mcdonald but would take him if available.

Which ever way it goes it looks likely we can pick up a reasonable player in PSD

I think he just believes in himself and has had an unfortunate run of injuries. You know Lance Franklin is the same kinda 'tool'. Flashy forwards that can back it up are rare and if Thorp can walk it and talk it then I hope its for the FFC.
