has been delisted by hawthron. supposedly has attitude problems and injury worries though have heard him been talked up alot on this site during trade week.

thoughts? if he was really delisted because of an attitude worry then i'd prefer to boycott but i've never seen him play so i don't know how good he could be.

get on it! he would add soo much depth to our side. if anyone knows how to handle attitude problems its mick. plus he would want a fresh start so he would be willing to work in a new environment perhaps.

either way, it adds another one to the PSD! :D

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pick 6 in the 06 Draft. Would definitely Look at Him
gotta be careful of those pick sixes
- Yarren (who may end up a quality player by all reports...but he's a blue so gotta stick it in)
- David Myers
- Thorp
- Dowler
- Tom Williams
- K Bradley
- Salopek
- Sampi
- Dylan Smith
- Cupido

thats the last decade of pick 6, doesn't exactly read as a list of superstars

I work with a guy who grew up with him in tasmania and said when he got drafted "good player but real (sic) arrogant"
he has a history of attitude problems according to media reports, probably used to being the best and hasn't worked out the work effort required at AFL. If a captain like Sam Mitchell can't get him to pull his finger out i don't know if we'd be any different!

Would love to have him if he's gotten over his shit attitude. The pies are a good team and work hard for each other. Why wreck team chemistry for a player who hasn't even been able to prove himself at the AFL level. Last round pick in the national draft is all i would be willing to give up for him.

Unrelated to this post I'm starting to think that at pick 30 we will get someone who is not by the name of Josh Thomas...

I'm convinced that someone out of: Troy Taylor, Jack Fitzpatrick, Matthew Panos, Jesse Crichton will drop to us at pick 30, with all my possible draft scenarios I have worked out I see atleast one of these four droping to us. My guess it will largely depend on who Fremantle pick.

I'm starting to think Josh Thomas is headed to Hawthorn at 39 now after long considering what will occur at pick 30.

In regard to Mitch Thorp if available at 62 I definately would consider him if (Harwood, Alex Carey, Andrew Hooper, Matthew Panos, James Craig were all taken), 78 would definately get. He strikes me as a bit of a Zac Dawson type pick in that he has been in the AFL system long enough to be physically ready for some senior footy. I say give him a chance.

Yes he will be a depth player for now, but once Prestigiacomo retires I can see him being a very real possibility at a key position player in our backline. Ben Reid I think we could very well use as a half back flanker who will play more as a rebounding type player a bit like Maxwell this year who will have the flexilbity to play either half back flank or centre half back.

Thorp is a possibility and I very much interested.

Interesting #6 picks. Not a 'star' amongst them. Sampi was handy, Williams and Salopek look ok and thats about it. It sounds like Thorp comes with abit of baggage, we can do without attitude and arrogance.

lol, from the hawks website player profile...

A settled forward line and groin injuries meant a scarcity of opportunities last season for the gifted Tasmanian. Confident type who is strong in the air and knows how to kick goals. Started a full pre-season campaign for the first time and is expected to come under consideration, perhaps even in defensive roles.

wonder if the person who wrote that was having a chuckle to themselves when they used that term...not too subtle really

Isn't he a Sean Rusling clone?

In that he has been nothing but injured since Hawthorn drafted him, or am I thinking about someone else. (It's late and I cbf doing searches on a player I don't really have any interest in).

Yep. Problem is though, his body is far more shot than Rus. With Rus, it's only his shoulder/s that have been affecting him.

With Thorp, he has lost all agility/mobility/acceleration and pace off the mark. Cannot hold down key position lacking in these areas.

Another difference though, is Rus has torn a game wide open too. Thorp has not.

Know a guy who worked at Hawthorn recently and was quite close with Thorp while he worked there.

From the sounds of it, the guy is an arrogant, egotistical tool, honestly thinks he is king shit. Has a heap of talent, if a club can get him in order he'll be worth it. Classy, skillful off both feet, good all round footballer.

And also, he.....well....believes in himself.

As mentioned above surely being delisted would take him down a notch. Personally if he where avalible at 30 and with the fact that we aren't exactly bursting at the seems with KPP that are sure to get the job done you'd take.

He has had his fair share of injury worries but has been listed roughly half as long as Rusling. Not a fair comparison really IMO also would have played more games in that time then Rusling.

He certainly is arrogant famously told Tom Harley in his return from injury game in 07 that he would end his career. What makes the story all the more funny is that Mitch was playing his VFL debut. He does have the talent to back it up though he went on to kick 6 on Tom IIRC.

Great talent and someone will take a chance on him and if they can get his head straight and get him on the park (the later I don't see being a major issue) then the rewards are likely to be great.

It was mentioned by the club Thorp requested a trade, but one wasn't found.

I'd assume if we were happy to draft Thorp at 30, we would've just trade the pick for him?

We won't select Thorp at 30. His injury risks are too high, and his percieved attitude problems will further take away from his value.

That said I hope we select him with pick 78. 62 is a bit high, can see a nice inside mid like Alex Carey being available, but at 78 is a good choice.

Got to pick him up if he falls to our second pick. Tall forward who was never going to break into a side with Buddy, Roughead, Dowler etc. Hawks had huge raps on him when he first came . Would have to fight for a position with Dawes as Dawes has achieved more to this stage of their careers.

An injury prone w***er, that was delisted for being too big of a w***er at a club full of themselves.

Hmm sounds like an interesting prospect, but its one i would have to consider

Pick 30 in a weak draft to high for pick 6 in a strong draft. I think it's worth mentioning that many a superstar slid in the draft due to "attitude problems" Buddy Franklin and Pav being a couple. I personally think if you consider the risk to reward it's deffinately in favour of taking him at 30. can't imagine him being there at 62. I actually am not sure he will even make it 30.

I actually am not sure he will even make it 30.
But the thing is, Hawthorn would've surely shopped him around in trade week, and a club could've given them, say, pick 20-30 for him.

It seems to me that no club was willing to part with that kind of pick in a trade, so I don't really see why they would use that pick in the actual draft.

Of course, it could be that Hawthorn didn't make it known he was available in the trade period I guess.

I personally agree that he'd be worth drafting at pick 30 as well, but I get the feeling the AFL clubs disagree.

If any club wanted to trade for Thorp, they would have done so in trade week.

We won't be using pick 30 on him.

The fact that he has been delisted will mean if he is selected it will either be late in the draft, PSD or even rookie listed.

I think KPP are a big need on our list and it would be worth the risk taking the punt on someone with as much talent as Thorp. He would give us an imposing deep forward option which we lack. Also the flexibility to move say Jack Anthony into the back line in the future in the event of injuries to Brown and Reid post Presti (as we have little KPD depth outside these two). Cloke, Thorp, Anthony as tall forwards with Medders, Didak and Dick as smalls would be pretty dangerous. Also gives us coverage in the event Rusling and Dawes don't come along. I'd be very interested if I were the club.

I see that line of thinking and get the logic but am still not sure I agree.

There are other variables. It may have been that we where to tied up in trying to offload 30 in the Ball deal. Hawthorn may not have made it known he was avalible. They may have been looking for a club to come because they wanted him to get a deal that they would use. He may have made it difficult by threatening to not agree to a trade.

Above and beyond all that I think they had a session yesterday they may have hoped he'd returned with a better attitude and decide it wasn't worth persisting with. It's far easier for a club with Buddy and Roughy in the fowardline for the next 10 years to make a statement like this by delisting a player who would be third option behind 2 of the best 5 fowards in the league.

He won't last til pick 62 in this draft, seriously. Go back to a shallow draft such as '07 and blokes like Thoolen were getting taken in the 40's and Mark Johnson and Gehrig getting redrafted in the 50's. This draft will be even worse for depth than that draft with the lack of 17 year olds; a young, promising KPP (albeit with his problems) is still going to be worth a punt by the 3rd round.

I wouldn't be absolutely surprised to see him gone by our pick 30 too be honest, but the fact he couldn't find a club during trade week may put that to bed... Still there might be a few reasons that didn't happen, we for example may have used pick 30 on him if we were never looking at Ball and maybe they weren't interested in pick 62... Or maybe clubs just weren't given enough warning and didn't get a chance to check out his attitude and injury problems, who knows.

Or maybe he has just gone to shit in the last few years. I remember thinking he was an absolute gun in juniors, but I must admit to not having seen much at all of him recently... He isn't on the park that much to be looked at really.

Still, put him down for an appointment with the medico's, sit him down with Mick and Bucks for a 'wake the **** up to yourself' session and I'd definitely be looking at him. Things have obviously changed over time, but from what I know, he'd be a far better KP prospect than any kid that will last through to 30 in this draft... Speaking purely on playing ability of course because I'm not sure how bad the other affecting factors are.
We need to bolster our KP stocks and this would definitely be one way of doing it.
