Look at him later in the draft.

As for being egotistical, arrogant and full of attitude....well so was I at 21-22.

I'm not anymore.

Most 21-22 year olds. It sort of comes with the terriotry of being a fit, happy, hormone charged young adult.

But he was delisted from hawthorn which is bulging with ego for attitude reasons, sounds like a worry.

Personally he would need a physical and mental check before drafting, in saying that we need a talented tall and we were looking at him for pick 8 and 10 that year

If we can get him fit, and his attitude in check he could be the missing link.

I saw him in his first game. Looked the type of player that could take a strong grab up forward.

If he was there in the 60's, he'd be more capable then most players available at that stage.

Malthouse would set him straight.

If we did get him, we would have certainly taken some kpp talent from that draft pool.

KPP who went at pick 6, 8, 10, 29. You would hope that would sort our kpp problems for years.

fair point

Malthouse can coach jack, a player hawthorn said they wouldnt draft because they wouldnt be able to set him straight.

Interesting to see if he is there at 62 or which club he trains at leading into the draft

I have a couple mates who play for Box Hill, they reckon the whole club just unanimously hates the guy. Has an enormous amount of tickets on himself.

g if anyone knows how to handle attitude problems its mick.
Can't see what you base that on. Tarrant and Michael were pushed out. He got rid of Betheras, Scottland and R Shaw. Didak is on his final last chance. Who has he turned around?

Anyway, on Thorpe, he's injury prone and unpoven. We already have Rusling in that boat and we just retired Rocca becasue he could get on the park. Add to that we already have Dawes.

Anthony, Holland, Davis, Heath Shaw (has ADD), changed buckley's attitude as captain.

Just to name a few

I don't agree with all of these.

There is no evidence that Anthony was "turned around" and whether or not it was Mick that did it.

Holland didn't really have behaviour problems, and made one of his biggest slip ups under Mick. Just because someone does something bad, doesn't mean Malthouse turned them around.

Heath Shaw. One bad mistake in the middle of his career to date. If MM gets credit for his good behaviour after this incident, then he should also take responsibility for the incident itself. By this logic, Mick created bad behaviour in Shaw as much as he turned it around.

Davis? The bloke who got booted from the club? Or Davis, the bloke that never had behaviour problems? Which Davis are you talking about?

Yeah met him here in Hobart before he was drafted never met anyone so up himself we don't want his kind at Collingwood.

Anthony was put in the uncoachable group by more then 1 club, 1 of tehm being Hawthorn. He hasnt gone nuts with us yet

Holland had many issues off field, weight, drinking etc went on to become one of our more important players. Im sure teh coach ahd nothing to do with that:rolleyes:

Heath has ADHD, takesa fairly good coach to handle that and use them correctly.

Davis the skinny aboriginal kid that wanted to go home, walk about etc and is no one of our best and aborignal games record holder at collingwood and thanks mick for all of it.

But yeah mick sucks

Davis has some massive issues toward the beginning of his time at the club and even he personally credits Mick for getting him to where he is.

If you are going to break all those incidents down like that Woodie, cite me any in the AFL coaching system who has actually managed to turn someone around? You can find reasons to discredit all of these, just like anyone you bring up chances are I can say
there is no evidence of that".
I think Mick has had a massive impact on a lot of boys at the club, not just the ones mentioned but I'm sure it is hard to specifically prove it with clear cut evidence.

A lot of players have been quoted as saying one of Mick's biggest asset is his ability to work with the players and get them on the right track, I'd be confident of him and the club turning around Thorp or anyone else for that matter.

Swan is a perfect example, if he can't be claimed as having turned it around, I dunno who can. And until Didak gets traded to Brisbane, then I say he has been reformed and a lot of credit for that goes to Mick who stood by him way back since the Stevens debacle.

Swan forgot about him

and didak gets traded to brisbane, he still has about 9 more alcohol offenses to come before that doesnt he?

Bottom line is, we should just take a risk. Our list is in good shape. Tell this boy fix up your attitude and we'll give you a chance. Give him a one year deal and tell him he'll be out as quick as he was drafted if he acts like a tool.

If he gets his body right he could be a high reward player for the sake of 1 list spot in a year where the draft isn't overflowing with depth.

And honestly, we really need to find another good young key forward.

He looked the whole part in his first game in 2007.

He's a fairly high-risk proposition, so providing we weren't giving away too much I'd be all for picking him up. Anything other than pick #30 would be fine by me.

One has to be concerned that Hawthorn would delist him while still contracted, given his known talent.

I reckon the last person that should deal with a Thorp type would be Clarkson.

2 massive ego's there it seems.

Like I said, Malthouse would get him behind closed doors and make him cry. The boy would come out with a halo and wings.:D

Opti, I am not saying MM sucks - I just started a threag three days ago giving him credit - but I am saying that is not necessarily the case for us to think that our coach has a better chance of turning someone around than any other.

All clubs would have examples of players who had a less than perfect record. And all of those players would pay credit to their coach for sticking with them and turning it around. And of course the coach is good with people - that is one of the main parts of their job!

I am all for going after Thorp, but not because we have the "best coach at turning people around", but because he has talent and there is a chance that he will turn it around.
