the way I read it, and its just speculation, is that Hawthorn tried to trade him (for appropriate value no doubt) but when that failed decided they didn't want him on their list if he wanted out. the impression seems to be that he will find another club easily enough, but they have decided to cut bait rather than deal with the player.

I can understand that, some guys are fine, obviously guys with motivation problems are better off somewhere else. if no one was going to take him (and thus pay his salary) then I don't think they would have delisted him.

I heard on good authority before that draft that he told Port he only wanted to play in Victoria and would be on the first plane out as soon as his first contract ended.
