Certified Legendary Thread Mitch watch - get that boy a contract - UPDATE: 2 year contract secured!

As you lot know I'm a massive Mitch Robbo fan. Love his hard nut playing style, his unbridled energy and enthusiasm and the way he turned his career/life around.

He is on a one year contract ATM even though he is best 22 and earning his spot every week.

I'd like this thread to be record of what he brings each week so at the end of the year there is no question of his right to an extension.

Yep - if he continues this form he'll deserve another contract. He's been great for us since he came here - seems a genuine club man and appears to set a good example for the younger guys.

Others are noticing too:

Nine things we learned
9. Robinson is underrated and crucial for the Lions
There's nothing flashy about Mitch Robinson, and he can make a mistake or two. But the tenacious Brisbane midfielder has become a valuable player for the Lions because he is prepared to do whatever task is thrown his way. On Sunday, in the Lions' win over North Melbourne, it was Robinson who largely took a free-wheeling Aaron Hall out of the game. The new North midfielder was starring in the first half, with 19 disposals and a goal, but had little impact after the main break with just seven more disposals. Robinson also finished with 22 disposals and a goal himself. The ex-Blue had to relaunch his career after getting dumped from the Blues at the end of 2014 and he's become a reliable member of the lions' line-up.

For some reason, I thought you were talking about Mitch Hinge.

Yeah, 100% with you on Robbo. Leaves everything on the field, week after week. Experienced campaigner who clearly loves this club. His presence clearly has a positive influence on his 21 colleagues, especially those his junior.

Mitch was my favourite non Brissie player, even though he played for Carlton, so I am a Mitch Fan. Unfortunately he has a weakness.

He goes to ground too often when on one of his inspirational hard ball efforts. He no longer is a candle in the wind type person at the club so he doesn't have to fly the flag (any mote clichés and I will throw up) all the time.

Stay upright and stay for several years more Mitch R.

Played 100 for Carlton (why Mitch why) and at 70 games now for us. Need to get another 30 from him so Chase Robinson can be ours as both father/son and academy :)

On a serious note - Mitch always gave us that lift in effort even in all those down years. Now with good talent around him he deserves to enjoy the next 3-4 with Lions.

The Afl is changing free agency rules at the end of this season (free agents are free agents for life) in response to changing player movements. More changes will come as there are more players moving.

Makes sense that father/son will be revamped at some point and surely that comes before our current players kids hit draft age.

I love him too. Always shows a lot of passion and grunt. One thing I disliked about him particular when he got to the club is that sometimes he goes in too hard and risks getting injured.

Either way he deserves at least a 2 year contract as he has definitely earned it.

Couldn’t believe the narrative that he was expendable last year. Would’ve given him the 2 years he wanted. More than earnt it, more than proved his worth.
Yeah he absolutely is not that. On field he gives everything and off field he's a centerpiece to the youth socialising together away from the club. Check out the insta feeds of himself, Cam, Witho, etc, they're quite often around his place and playing in the back yard with his kids.

Sign him up again now, if the worst thing that happens is that he plays all of next year in the neafl and instills his guts and determination onto the youngones coming thru, im happy with that. Wont be the case tho, he still has 30-40 good afl games in him.

30-40 games gets us to father son territory. Good call.

He’s reinvented himself a bit this year playing on the wing. No rush to re-sign him though.

I agree. I thought he might miss out on games as I didn't love him up forward but he is playing a great defensive role on the wing at the moment. If he keeps it up until mid-season, then I think that's the time to look at re-signing him for another year.

At his age and level of performance I think its very much a year to year proposition, much as I love the other stuff he brings to the team.

Mitch is the arch-typical "once was a jerk now made good" story.

I hated him with a passion once and freely admit I had grave reservations when we threw him a lifeline after Carlton gave him the arse.

I have massive man love for the guy now and not just because he wears a Lions jersey. It's because of they way he has matured as a person and how he conducts himself with humility and good humour.

I don't really get this group-think idea about him somehow being a low skilled trier with a big heart.

He's better than average mark, has a decent turn of speed, can kick competently off his left, is a reliable shot at goal from any distance
and always gives 100 percent.

Go Mitch:thumbsu::footy:
