Mitcham

I don't particularly like the CBD and the suburbs have a pull but at the same time, every person has some sort of interest that pulls them into the city and inner suburbs: to see a band, a game of footy, an exhibition, a friend, whatever.

Generally Melbourne's outer suburbs are ugly, boring, and make me feel weirdly homesick.

Also what's the point of stumping down a deposit and a lifetime of debt repayments for $1.1 mil odd when the end result is ****in Wantirna? I don't get the idea of being a slave to something so average. I would rather rent all my life and live in a suburb way closer to the city.

Melbourne is ending up crazy too... houses selling for a mil in St Albans because 'it's close to Footscray.' Come on. Those areas immediately around the Scray became popular because they were close to the city - as it should be. They're great suburbs in their own rights because they're actually pretty safe, there's a lot of bars, there's heaps of parks, it's close to the city... lots of things happening... St Albans is just shit! No one wants to make a night of it and go out in Footscray - those people in Footscray utilise the bars around them for a quiet night, not to only use them exclusively.

Middle suburbs are in because not everybody is able or willing to pay $1,000,000 to live in a house they can raise 2-3 kids in.

Then Mitcham is out.
Fast becoming a 7 figure suburb for a house

Me too. For what I don't know as I'm from Melbourne. Family and Footy these days is all Melbourne has going for it. Shit weather also. (Thou Perth is ******* boiling. And I love the heat but it is like living in the Middle East. Careful what you wish for there).
You think all Melbourne has going for it is that?

No. I'm just jaded by the traffic and cold.

You don't like the cold of Melbourne (mean top temperature of 20.8) but Perth's heat (mean top temperature of 24.8) takes some getting used to? Tough crowd.

You're not one of those people who just complains about the weather, no matter what it's doing, are you?

Love the heat. In fact I have bitched more this Winter with the 1 degree cold mornings then I ever did during that 46 degree summer heat spell a few years back.

Fact is Melbourne doesn't have an ideal climate.

Whatever. Melbourne is a great city but perhaps personally for me it is time for a change.

I'm not sure what an ideal climate is? Surely it's different for everybody? Personally, I subscribe to Billy Connolly's notion: there's no such thing as bad weather; there's only the wrong clothes.

For me, hearing about all the moaning about the weather (whether it's July or February) or the 15 minute public transport delay war stories are far more irritating than actually having to put up with a top temperature of 12, or being stuck on a train for 15 minutes longer than expected.

I agree. The weather is the weather. It's cold in winter and it's hot in summer. Personally I prefer the cold, but that's my opinion. I prefer wearing that type of clothing and I enjoy the days I can relax in pubs or at home reading and watching the footy.

The summer is good due to the fact I can get up early and ride or swim, and also swim in the evening after work. The beach is overrated these days unless it's a good surf beach.

As Billy Connolly says, only the wrong clothes.
