Don't play in the midfield together that often which is why they don't get the kudos of Brisbanes Fab 4 but when they do they're lethal. Hawthorn have been the masters of prolonging their careers and keeping them at their peak by keeping them out of the action and on the flanks as much as possible.

Their midfield isn't up with the greatest of the modern era IMO. Only Mitchell has been a consistently elite midfielder (while hodge has been a consistently elite utility). Burgoyne is all class while not dominant regularly and Lewis took quite some time to become the player he has become. What makes them so damn good is they have elite players on every line. Geelong and Brisbane had great backlines like the hawks but neither team had the talent forward like this current team does.

Actually take Ablett out of Geelong they are probably equal/better to them in the middle, but don't have the dominance of WCE/BRIS from the centre. Hawks are probably the best coached unit though.

Na, footy was better in the good old days, and footy stars and midfields were better in the good old days. These guys are overrated, especially Rioli. Rioli doesn't get enough stats. Hodge and Mitchell are just dirty, overrated snipers. Mitchell doesn't actually play the game, he just runs around raising his knee on people. The Hawks are overrated. Every premiership team in history is better. Their success is entirley based on high draft picks, and back in the 80s, on good zoning. All their members are cats and goldfish, and they rely on Pokie income. Sold their soul to Tassie too.

Agreed, a ridiculously good starting 4 that. The balance was just too good. Hardness of Voss, pure skill of Black & Lappin and the freakish flair of Aker.

Rioli is overrated and your midfield is behind those mentioned. Hodge isn't a midfielder, he's a faux toughman playing loose in the backline. Mitchell is a gun, chronically underrated. The other two are solid.
