Mitchell Johnson

Good to see Mitch getting a run- the totals from the CT last year were a bit dodgy because of the quality of pitches, but he is taking top order bats, so one should sit up and take notice. With Hilf and Taity also there, the pace bowling stocks seem to be filling up rather nicely.

transferring to a test setting will be interesting, but you'd think all of them will get a go at some point. Lee and Clark will lead, obviously, but there may be some pretty intense competition for spots. Wonder if we might even go the Windies route and go with four quicks, if we have Roy doing his tricks and another batsman offering some variety in reserve?

The real deal?

12 matches into his ODI career and he's averaging a very respectable 23 with the ball, at a very lively pace too.

Together with the Hilf our up and coming pace bowling stocks are looking damn good. :thumbsu:

Bloke called Tait is quite highly rated also. :thumbsu:

Who cares?

A left-arm bowler who bowls 145km/h on a consistent basis and he reckons he can bowl faster - those are signs of a talent. If he continues to hit the deck hard and take wickets he will be a permanent fixture in the Australian team. No doubt in my mind.

If you think of it, he is probably the most improved player and he can improve even more, if he does he should be a very good bowler.

Bingo.

Mitchell Johnson has impressed.

Tait & The Hilf, + Lee and Clark is alot of pace talent.

4 quicks comming up in the test team?

Sounds good to me. :thumbsu:

you obviously havent seen Tim Lang bowl before, he has the worst action ive seen and how he gets a go at state level with that action is beyond me. he may as well cut his left arm off.

Lang's action is nearly identical to Paul Rofe's. Not bad per se, but that wierd little hop thing makes you want to cry when you watch it. Just like watching Paul Adams bowl.

The only way Tait will play international cricket again is if there's serious injury problems with our top line bowlers and the selectors get desperate. Line and length is what's required as an international bowler and Tait can't do that.

Rubbish.

He is only 23 yoa.

166 wickets @ 26 with a strike rate of 43.

Bloody good prospect.

Injury prone, inconsistent and wayward. There are at least four fast bowlers I would pick ahead of him for McGrath's position, so in my book he's the seventh best fast bowler in Australia.

Tait will open the bowling come the 2009 Ashes tour

Johnson has improved a helluva lot in the past year or two. A couple of years back he was struggling to get a game for QLD and was often dropped out of their main XI. To be frank, he is bowling better at international level than he ever did at state level. Must really be seizing the moment, he used to bowl half trackers and get carted all over the park, because he tried to swing the ball with every delivery and pitched it up far too much. Has shortened his length and now is hard to pick off due to his pace and bowls a good line. Much improved and doing well.

Tait is a massive talent, has the best yorker in the country if not the world. Huge statement but is lethal with his full deliveries, very high amount of bowleds or lbw's in his dismissals, signs of a true FAST bowler.

Having said that it would be tough to have both Lee and Tait in the one team. Tait is a little less expensive than Lee generally and takes bigger bags more often. Lee has his spot for now but Tait's raw numbers at domestic level will see him promoted soon enough, at the expense of Lee...who knows maybe, maybe not.

Hilfy is the man to takes McGrath's spot he is better than Tait and Johnson.

Lee is the best ODI bowler in the world, I don't think he will lose his spot in the Australian ODI Team, we would be mad. Test cricket is a different game and he's under pressure to keep his spot, for sure. If Tait continues to take wickets between now and next summer he has a chance to get selected for the Test XI. We should play him, if he's good enough, no point leaving him to rot at domestic level. Problem being for Tait... Punter has his mates and Lee is one of "them".

Bump....

4/46, against a deadset joke of a side though.
Bowled ordinary to start with today & I wouldn't judge him by todays pathetic opposition. Lee was easily the best bowler.

IMO, the order of the quicks should be:
1. Bracken
2. Lee
3. McGrath
4. Tait
5. Johnson
6. Clark

Personally, I wouldn't have Clark in my top 6. I would rate the others exactly the same, but the reality is, Tait has to carry the Tait Taits before worrying about Australian selection

Why wouldn't you have Tait?

Because others are better frankly.

1. Bracken
2. Lee
3. McGrath
4. Johnson
5. Hillfenhaus
6. Clark (he'll be there as much as I don't like it)
7. Harwood

Tait might get in at no8 for mine. I have never believed we can play Tait and Lee in the same side and the selectors frankly agree with this. It failed dismally in England in 2005. If Lee gets injured then there is a reason to perhaps play Tait though.

Check out the difference in List A stats between Tait and the rest of the bowlers that are in competition for his spot.

I also wouldn't play Lee and Tait together in the same Test side, but in the ODI side its fine.

I don't need to as the selectors agree with this. If Tait is so good he would have played ODI's. The selectors don't see the need for 2 outright quick bowlers in the same side. Also you have to consider that Tait is a real bunny with the bat. Tait will be ok in tests as he is able to go for a few runs. Swing bowlers (hillfenhaus), and left armers (johnson) are being preferred. No problem with that at all. Gives the team some variety. Tait is too similar to Lee and that is the way selectors feel.

He is so good, you can't ignore that, and he would have played if not for injuries at the wrong time.

So what if he is a bunny with the bat? Who are we, England? You pick bowlers to bowl.

Tait is the best young bowler in Australia, that should not be ignored.
